Twenty years ago, the human race reached a golden age of technology. Almost every wound can be healed, and for the most part, death is not permanent. World hunger is nonexistent, and there is no more war. Things were perfect. And perfect was boring.

So, ten years into what seemed like endless perfect boredom, a solution was proposed; a game broad cast on live television for all to see. A number of random people taken off the streets are given some sort of weapon, power, or advantage of some sort, and they are set loose in a city with the sole purpose of Killing the other contestants.

Over the years, thousands of contestants have made their way onto the show, and the show has grown to the number one most popular show on television. Period. There is not a single person who has never seen at least a few minutes of the broadcast, which streams on its own channel 24/7.

Four contestants have just retired from the show, and the show needs replacements. So, four random people are taken off the streets, and given a design team.

i fidget nervously as i sit, tapping my pencil on my thigh as i wait for my name to be called by the rather bored looking receptionist. i think she's playing solitaire on her computer. i don't say anything about it, simply turning away to look at the other people in the waiting room.

there's a tall man in the corner with bright blue eyes and black hair, a mask covering the rest of his face from the nose down. he's leaning against the wall with his phone in his hands, playing some sort of game. in the chair beside him is a girl with brown hair and glasses, she sits perfectly still, staring off into space. last but not least; in the farthest corner of the waiting room is a girl with bright pink hair, next to her is a black backpack with what looks like a redbull sticking out of it.

there's no question why we're all here; the large posters hung all over the walls -and all over the city, too- advertising a survey that enters you into a drawing, with the prizes including a thousand dollars in cash, a paid vacation to Belize, and a scholarship to a school of your choice. there were hundreds of other prizes too, but the flyers only listed those three.

personally, when i got the email that i needed to come to the nearest Kill Count head quarters to receive my prize, i was exciting. i haven't been told what i've won, yet, but it has to be big for them to want me to come here to get it. i bet the others were similarly excited when they got their emails telling them to come here to get their prizes.

Irin sits with careful poise in her chair, calm, confident, and completely cool. She wasn't exactly sure what prize was being offered to her, but she wouldn't mind whatever it was. She just wished she knew more what she was being rewarded for; she couldn't remember why she had signed up for the drawing, if she even did. It was very possible her girlfriend had signed them both up in hopes she'd get it.
Irin begins her mental list, crossing off the things she has done and which she had gotten payed for, just in case one of them had been entering the drawing. Everything seemed in check, nothing missed and none related to the current situation she's in. She blinks as she has that feeling that she gets when someone is watching her even for a second, and, in return, she looks back at those also in the room.
She looks the blond over, silently taking notes. Nope. There wasn't a current bounty on him, so no use pondering over him further. The same is with the other two - at least from her knowledge of the current bounty's floating around that she's after, which were the only ones worthwhile. Irin sighs and gives the blond a small smile, though it looks a bit forced and out of place.

Alastor contuine to play the game Minecraft on his phone. He wasn't really excited to be in the Kill Count. Alastor never liked how it is run but is more neutral in things. He looked around feeling he was watched but dismissed the feeling. He put his phone away and crossed his arms around his chest. This prize better be good for Alastor or at least help him in life and the reason he signed up for the drawing.

i return the womans smile, giving her a tiny wave before quickly getting distracted again. the receptionist stands up, grabbing the lunchbox from beside her nd walking off towards a door labelled "employees only", shutting the door behind her.

well, i guess she wont be calling for us anytime soon. i flip open my sketchbook, flipping to the next blank page and setting to drawing the fake potted plant beside the row of chairs. i'm running low on pages, i'll have to get a new sketchbook soon.

i'm soon pulled from my drawing by the clicking of heels, and a young woman strides into the waiting room. she wears a long white lab coat, and her black hair is tied back in a messy but short pony tail, a strand falling free from its bindings and into her face. in her hands she clutches a clipboard and pencil, which she holds close to her chest.

"are you all here for your prizes?" she asks, surveying the room quietly and pursing her lips.

Eris leans against her own elbows in boredom, running her tongue absently over her teeth. She brushes her bright-pink bangs out of her eyes, grinning cheerfully at the other- what she assumes to be- contestants. How interesting.... huh, I wonder what they're like. Are they here for the same reason? I'd assume so. Nevertheless, they look exciting!

"Yeah, more or less!" Eris chirps with a wink, leaning back casually. Unlike most of the others, she seems almost at home in the largely-unwelcoming office.

Alastor looked up at the blond male and said, "I enter to see if the prize might help me in life,"

i glance over at the man as i stand up, giving him a smile. i mean, it was a bit of a weird thing to start a conversation but who cares anyways?

"i take it none of you know what you've won yet?" she asks, gesturing for us to follow. i nod, and i see everyone else around me agreeing as well. we weren't told what we won before we got here, but that we would be told on live television as a promotional event to boost the shows rating and run an add for some sponsors.

"perfect!" she says, smiling "if you will follow me, then" she says, turning heel and walking down the hallway. i hope i get the trip to Belize, i've never been but i've heard it's quite nice. my friend says the beaches are great.

the woman leads us down the hallway and past multiple unmarked doors into a large elevator, waiting for us all to step on before allowing the doors to close and pressing the button for the topmost floor. "Because of the nature of this promotion - it being televised, and such- i am not at liberty to discuss anything regarding prizes until we reach the Lab, where the process will be filmed." she explains, pulling a stack of papers from her clipboard and handing one to each of us. "please sign on these, they just state that we have your full consent to film this process and air the film on live television" she says, handing her pen to be passed around the group.

Eris nods and takes the pen, signing her name in swoopy wild handwriting that matches her personality rather well.
