Sylestia is a wonderful game - this site has players all over the world!
But, lately I've noticed something: there's no option to see this all in a different language.
We have players from Germany, South Africa. . .some who don't know English as a first/primary language.
So, what's my suggestion?
Players are able to access a moderated translator to set up different languages - i.e. I would go to the Japanese version and make an edit. When I'm done, I request for it to be checked. When the most important bits (i.e. dialogue, GUIs) are 100% translated, the version will be made public and can simply be swapped to via a selection box on a sidebar.
TL;DR An editing system like that used by Wikipedia to deliver language translations for players.
(I explained this poorly. Please ask if you want me to try to elaborate ^^)

Google translate should automatically show up on pages that aren't their native language. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close to what you're thinking of.

Unfortunately, that feature has to be turned on in Chrome's settings. This is more for (and because):
- Those that don't use Chrome (i.e. Firefox, Edge, etc.)
- People that don't have administrator access to said settings, even if they use Chrome (i.e. school computers)
- Google Translate isn't anywhere near perfect. If I put "Sie" in for German it would define it as they, you, and she. That, and Google Translate isn't very good at translating actual sentences.
- People that want to share something with the community. I feel that if we had community translators we could all be closer.
- The "Translate" feature for Chrome is somehow worse than actual Google Translate. I can't even read my e-mail with it on.
I do agree with you that Google Translate helps somewhat, but I'd just like it all to be streamlined within the site so people don't have to go all willy-nilly for a translation we could just provide.

- The majority of people use Chrome in the first place.
-People shouldn't be playing games during school hours. If it's on their parents' computer or something, it'd be pretty easy to just ask to turn on the translator setting.
-I took German classes. 'Sie' means she (respectful), and 'sie' means you, they, or she (informal). Words can have multiple meanings. And it still gets plenty accurate enough to be understood.
-Community translators can't translate an entire page for a person within a short period of time.
Plus, there's a country option when you make an account. Not sure what it does to non-English countries since I'm from America, but it's reasonable to assume it senses the language from that.

- My country is set to Germany. The site does appear to be in English.
- Lesser used languages (i.e. Javanese, Amharic) are translated horridly.
- Chinese residents cannot use Google or its services, so there's that. . .
- Google Translate will confuse "they" and "(formal) you" for German on numerous occasions. Not a massive thing, but noticeable. Heck, this point doesn't really matter.
- People can have off periods during school hours - heck, I've got three. I balance tech assistance and Sylestia during that time and I still have time for homework. My grades are not affected whatsoever, and a break from formal education is amazing.
- The United States accounts for over 25% of Google's use. I would say a lot of US players would have no need for a translator.
- A translated site could even help people learning new languages (i.e. I want to learn Chinese, so I'd set the site to Chinese to test my knowledge in a different setting).
Simply. . .I believe both of us know the site can continue fine without a speck of language translation. This was a suggestion for people that legitimately struggle with English - it's even my secondary language and I struggle enough with my understanding.
It's just a for-players-by-players thing - ideally the process of bringing Sylestia along wouldn't be hindered whatsoever. If it doesn't apply to you, it doesn't apply to you.

I support this! I'm supposed to be learning chinese, and having an option to set Sylestia to chinese could help with my studies lol. 'Specially since I'm so familiar with the site itself.
As for community translators' edits like wikipedia - that's a wonderful idea. I believe the only problem is that krin's already stated that he doesn't want to use player moderators, so I'm not sure how player/community translators would work into that.

I would definitely be in favour of having multi-language options! Especially ones created by people fluent in the languages being translated to. Google translate is a nice thing, and is fine for simple translations, but I've personally found it lacking when using it to translate Japanese language sites, so I can only imagine how well it translates English into other languages.
As was stated by others, this would be great for learning languages other than English as well. I'd like to think I'd take advantage of that for my own language learning.
I'm not sure the best way to go about creating these other language options. I like the community-mindedness, but I agree that Krin usually likes to keep things as in-house as possible. Maybe if it was an add-on similar to the Sylestia extension to start? I have no idea how that would work or how it could be coded, but an idea nonetheless?
And... I'll just chime in that I don't use Chrome XP

Support! I really don't have much feedback (smol-brained Myst lol) but I think this would be a great option!

Support! I think this would be a great feature to add to Sylestia, since people from all over play!

True. I realize that my firs two comments might've come across as rude, so I want to make it clear I'm not trying to be. Having extra languages just seems more like an 'after-release' thing to me, espeically noting how many changes Sylestia's getting in this beta. And again, that might be just me. But personally, I feel having translations would make more sense to do after all the text is finished.
