I heard that you can get free avatar items, is that true and if so how would I acquire them is there someone I have to go and visit or a task to complete

There are a few free items you get for completing certain parts of the game. You can also find them by killing the seasonal bosses (as a minor drop loot rate). You can participate in some offical forum games, some of them give out either avi items or avi tokens (which you use to purchase past avi items). You also start out with a few free basic avi items.

sometimes people also do giveaways =p or you could just... get something from someone
