I think the most important thing with breeding is to have a goal in mind. While breeding randomly can sometimes be fun, you don't have a lot of stable space when you are first starting out. Play in the generator, and see what you would like to eventually breed. And don't be afraid to release pets.

If you have specific questions, I am always happy to try and help.

> breeding randomly could potentially make some interesting results, but not usually sellable results

> know how sylesti genetics work (punnett square genetics)

> having a goal- a project- is the most likely to sell (you can post interest checks on design ideas in the Pet Sharing and Design Discussion forum to see how other people feel about designs before you start)
- colours (Theme projects and personal (non-themed) projects)
- stats
- traits

> make sure you know how to get the supplies you need and have the funds to obtain them (potentially including: breeding stock, essences, dyes, philters)

> access to a genetest kit is useful (people offer this service for free in the Groups, Guilds, Clubs, and Services forum

> having space in your stables- projects can take up a LOT of space! I'd recommend having at least one stable free (not just a single tab- a stable with several free tabs)

> having the time and dedication if you plan to do a long-term project- many projects can take a year or more to complete!

> you can check the pet marketplace forum and the advanced search to help work out the values of certain things- or you can ask in genchat, as people are generally willing to help.

First off, you need to know that breeding pets is a bad way of earning gold. I do it as a side job and I know for a fact I could not support myself in game with just breeding. If you want to rely on breeding only, that's your choice, but you should always have alternate methods of getting gold. (Missions are an amazing way to get gold)

First off, don't breed everything right away and sell the offspring, if you do that, your stables will be overcrowded and some people wont even see the pets for sale.

You'll want to create a thread, something with a catchy title. Link your stables and maybe show a few of your pairs as a way to show off what kind of pets you have. Put this thread in the pet sales forum, that way more people will see it. You should also link it on your profile and bump it up once it hits the third page, that way you won't lose it.

You'll want a good variety of colors and traits, this way, you'll be able to sell to a wider audience. Invest in stables and cheaply priced pets with at least 2vis as anything less, well, their offspring wouldn't sell. You'll also want to consider the traits and colors of pets you already have. Uglier pets won't sell and are considered 'dishwater pets'

An example of a dishwater pet is something with clashing colors, pale colors or clashing traits. They aren't that pretty to look at and most people don't want them.

Change your hatchery settings to release any un-named pets. That way you'll be saving room in your stables by only naming the ones you plan on keeping for yourself. Selling the offspring while they're still in the hatchery creates a limited time sale sort of thing, where after a certain period of time, they won't be available. Releasing pets simply gets rid of them from the game. You cannot interact with them and you cannot sell them. They aren't gone forever, you can always reclaim them for 50 diamonds.

I personally release pets I can't keep because I don't have room for. I can always get them back when I have the room, so I consider releasing as a way to store pets (among other things)

Base your prices off of what you see in advanced search, as that would give you a fair idea of prices. If that doesn't give you enough sales, have it be a pick your price, or pay what you want, but set a price minimum. That way, people can buy your pets for something they can afford. Of course, you can always barter with your customers if you disagree with their price.

As for zolnixies, I can breed you a few free ones and give you some of my old pairs that I don't use anymore. Someone helped me out when I was starting my career in breeding, so I'd like to help someone out too.

For your current pets, I'd say to sell or release the 0-1vis pets as they aren't going to get you much, and by keeping them around, you'll have limited space.

Anyway, I hope this helps. If you ever need more advice, or are interested in taking some of my old nixies I don't use, just press the little blue @ button at the bottom of my post to ping me. It will notify me of when you post, just like when I did here.
