You can get more pets buy buying them from other players, breeding them yourself, creating them via essence or by capturing them from the wild.
I would suggest that you buy them from others seeing as you are a beginner.
If you would like a free pet I can help just let me know what species you would like.
Also pets some have some breeding restrictions: they have to be the same species, both must be adults, female must not be recovering (a week wait time at most), pets not be related (mother, father, full or half siblings), pets must not be infertile-ized.

Feel free to ping (blue @) or PM me with any questions regarding the game. If you would like another pet I can also help. I mostly breed: Zolnixis, NyVene, Lupes, and Qitari, but I also do others but the stats and genetic pool are not as good.

Breed two pets of the same species. Offspring will only have a trait if both of their parents had a trait. (I know this from endless breeding)
You can only breed a themed pet by breeding two parents of the same theme together. Some themes break those rules.

About the factors that affect whether the offspring of a pair of pets you breed has a trait. What you said isnt quite right. While the offspring of a pair will always have one or more visible traits if its parents have a visible trait or traits in the same gene slot or slots, it can (though with far less frequency) still happen if (1) one parent has a visible trait in a certain gene slot (or slots) & the other has a carried trait(s) in the same gene slot(s), or (2) both parents have a carried trait(s) in the same gene slot(s).
