I recently removed some people from my friends list (inactive people), but when I'm in my inventory and want to send an item to one of my friends, the previous ones are there. Not sure if this is a bug or if I did something wrong

You can remove a person from your Friends List, I believe, by going to their profile page and clicking the 'Remove Friend' button.

I've done that and gone to all the profiles. They all say "Add To Friends" and aren't on my friends list, but are still shown in the "Choose a Contact" button when sending an item.

On the Inbox page, the far right tab is Contacts. I have people still listed there that I've removed from my friends list. Maybe try removing them there as well?

Unfortunately, there's just really no site-wide 'contacts' system in place. :\ It's just a bunch of bits and pieces for certain things, etc. It's really bad, honestly.
Someday though, there is a plan to have a way more fleshed out system. Probably about the same time to the Site leaves Beta.
