I bought a second party slot, but it won't let me purchase a 3rd one, do I need to finish another part of the story to unlock that or is there something else I can do? Thanks!

I think the third slot is available once you reach the Sanctuary of Saerielle?
(by the way, your starter is very pretty o: )

Ah thank you! I didn't think to go check at the sanctuary to upgrade
