Gonna take me a bit to start brainstorming but you can go ahead and dump any ideas you got since I can work from there.
Haven't really done a mafia rp before so I find the idea really cool especially if I can also play a cop character too, ooo

Not sure that one would work too well honestly, but I can try to think about it. Doing some thinking since another group literally has me frustrated at this point by making absolutely no sense, so here's what I got so far.

A gang known by some name I have to think of yet has been causing strings of national crime with strange, inhuman powers for a reason I need to think of yet.

(If you've ever watched the anime Darker than Black, think like that. These gang members would basically be like the Contractors in that series who have X-Men like superpowers who got them from radiation emitted from a rift between worlds that stripped them of their humanity. Not going to go with something completely like that, but something similar. These guys got their powers from somewhere and they aren't saying where.)

The government's tried to cover up their existence, feeling they are such a danger to the public the panic would halt society.
For whatever reason (connection, investigators, or otherwise), certain characters set out to get the bottom of this gang and stop them from causing any more murders and crimes.

I was mostly using it as an example of the type of superpower I was talking about.
Magic's always really fun to drop into a completely normal world unprepared for it and I love doing it, so I was using that anime as an example of a setting that does it and goes to great lengths to make a lot of chaos out of it, lol.

I like the idea of these antags having these crazy powers and the party's maybe forced to work with a former member to get info on them and even stand a fair shot against them. Having stuff like guns adds to the fun because as powerful as they are normally, even bullets alone might not be enough for some of them.

Lot to work with, honestly, but gives me an excuse to write a lot of cool combat/action stuff and maybe character drama.

Most of my OCs come from a sci-fi adventure, Star Trek inspired setting that had a society of ancient aliens have their secrets to understanding the construction of the universe (and magic by extension, these aliens know how to manipulate the elements and matter itself) basically stolen by other species and now the universe is basically falling apart because of it because there's so much misuse of it.
The entire balance of everything is shot and you have god-like beings showing up left and right to antagonize the party or get used as weapons by warlording aliens.
It's incredible and wild. We literally have a time god chilling on our starship in our present Discord group while the rest of the party is trying to fight a bunch of space pirates armed with magic tech. Like all of my guys would be so lost around natural magic users.

The rest of my non-sci-fi characters basically just come from random one off fantasy sandbox settings which is not nearly as fun. Usually I just end up converting characters I already have to modern or making new ones most of the time.

I hadn't read that series but I can definitely see some parallels. My universe mostly focuses on this Starfleet/Intergalactic United Nations type organization that's now tasked with trying to contain all this craziness and stop societies from collapsing. For better or worse, we always seem to get stuck on the same planets.
We always have a lot of political drama going and it feels a lot more like a military/sci-fi slice of life setting than a superhero or fantasy one, even though one of my players has joked we're basically writing JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in space.

Pfft. And I have a habit of just killing off characters when I don't know what to do with them.
I'll try to brainstorm what characters of mine would be good for this if the idea so far here sounds good to you, lol.
