Once there was a girl named Helen, who lived on the island of Nassau. But Helen was a slave, and she was doomed to live and die as little more that an object, owned by a man who didn't see her as even human.
Once there was a girl named Cecily. She was the daughter of a freed slave and her white master. No one would employ a 'filthy' mixed-race woman, and so Cecily turned to thievery to survive, stealing larger and larger items as she got bolder.
Once there was a woman named Renee, and she was a pirate. She had been taken when she was young, when her island town was raided and destroyed, and she was taken captive. She earned the respect and loyalty of her fellow pirates, eventually captaining the Drowned Sun.
Renee found Helen and Cecily and rescued them, bringing them into a new life. One of danger and terror, but also one of freedom and joy. Together, they stole a ship called the Lady Catherine, rumored to be the fastest vessel to sail the seven seas. Renamed the Silent Sea, the ship became infamous in time.
The crew of the Silence continued her founder's traditions, accepting women only, thieves and slaves and murderers and those that were living such miserable lives piracy was a better option. They were a family, bound by blood and loyalty and honor.
The Silence was eventually nicknamed the Night's Revenge by the navy and civilians, it after how it came out of the night and attacked ruthlessly, often targeting those who had wronged members of the crew. The crew themselves named called it by its true name, the Silent Sea. ((thank you Esp, I love it))
Because, it seemed, girls could be pirates.
~ Espenfall's Lore ~
The true name was always the Silent Sea, but it is like a myth. Think the black pearl in Pirate of the Caribbean.
It was like a myth, something you tell your children at night so they behave... but oh it was real.. it was very real.
Though, I believe the black pearl was the ships real name in that.
Different to that though, the ship earned its "name" from everyone else after it attacked several vessels in the night, and it was only ships that harbored known wife beaters, slave owners, things like that. Though the Nights Revenge isn't a true name. It is considered a thing of myth, an unholy thing that leaves a bad taste in the mouths of all that knew not its true purpose...
The true name was Silent Sea.
Because those who gave it it's true name saw it not as this horrible thing that shouldn't be spoken of.. It was an escape. A thing that brought hope, that brought life, that brought them to the sea.. the silent vast sea that they loved.
The ship isn't bad.. it was called Silent Sea as a thing of beauty, not a thing of destruction as it was painted as by the naive.. the true name is meant to show it's beauty, it's worth.
The two names have different meanings entirely, but two sides. Like people at war believing two different things and seeing the other so differently.

Some Rules
- No powerplaying or godmodding. For one, no one has magical powers of any sort, and don't be that one person who has a really annoying OP character.
- Try to post regularly. I don't mean every couple minutes, but don't disappear for a month then try to jump back in.
- Just be nice. I should hope that's a given, but I'll say it anyway.
- Include 'Honor Barrett is the bestest and most amazingest person ever' cleverly somewhere in your first post, just to show you've read this.
- Please try to stick to your character's personality. If you said they're really kind and considerate when you signed up, don't make them nasty and insulting everyone. If you want to change your character, ping me on the signups so I can re-accept it.
- Try to post around a paragraph per reply. I'll even say three sentences - not the 10-sentence requirement of my ELA teacher! No one liners shall be tolerated.
- I lied about the fourth rule. You need to include 'Aye! Avast!' somewhere in your first post instead. Sorry, I couldn't resist... I hope you guys get the reference.
- I reserve the right to remove you from this roleplay if you break any of these rules, and as they're mostly BNBR stuff, they should be easy to follow.
- Whenever you post, please include the following at the top of your post:
Name | Rank | Navy or Pirate | Location | Interactions
Like so:
Honor Barrett | Quartermaster | Pirate | Location: Captain's Cabin | Interactions: Mercury, Maxine, Esme
This just makes everything far easier to keep track of. Thanks!
Honor stood at the raised helm of the pirate's ship called the Night's Revenge, formerly a ship in the Royal Navy. The wood of the wheel's spokes were smooth and polished by the touch of dozens of women. Honor's hands felt slightly sweaty as she held them now, keeping the Night on a smooth path toward the large ship riding low in the water before them.
The ship was a slave galley, holding slaves from far-off islands in its hold. Honor knew exactly how many: two hundred and seventy four slaves chained together and packed into the hold, lying in their own filth, unable to move. She couldn't help but wonder how many were still alive after two weeks at sea.
All along the rails of the ship, the Night's crew stood at the ready. Belowdecks, just as many of them were waiting at loaded cannons for the order to fire. One girl checked her rifle for what seemed the hundredth time. Another tossed a knife from hand to hand.
After several years on the ship, Honor had gotten used to each person's habits, especially their nervous habits before a fight. She had her own, but the crew was relying on her and Captain Maxine Darling to show no fear, even when they were sailing directly for a battle.
"No slaves are to be harmed," she shouted. "We are to take the ship and dispose of her crew only. Do not attempt to free the slaves from the hold until the fighting is done."
They all already knew what their mission was, but it helped Honor to repeat it right before the moment of action. "Our goal is to liberate as many as possible. You all know your roles. Listen for Maxine and I during the fight."
Honor drew her curved cutlass from her belt and held it up, keeping one hand on the wheel. "Run up the colours!" she cried.
Two women jumped into action instantly. The black flag of the Night's Revenge, with its sideways white skull over a crossed sword and bone, looking up at a bleeding heart, began to climb up the mainmast to dance in the wind.
A cheer went up from the pirates above and belowdecks, and Honor cheered right along with them.
Yes, you may go ahead and post now.

( Sorry for shorter replies not feeling all too well- )
Maxine was pacing, the soft sounds of her boots being heard from anyone nearby. She was.. stressed to say the least, but she made it look like she was upset and ready to free those they could. She sighed softly as she looked out at the vast ocean.. She would be ready to fight at any moment. That she swore to herself and her crew. Slowly the sounds around her started to fade out, she didn't hear nor see anything.. She was almost completely out of it, in a way that if one would of spoken to her she wouldn't respond.

( Sorry if you weren't pinged the ping list wasn't working)
Jeaine hid below deck behind a barrel not wanting to join in on what was going on above deck. She intended to hide and read her leather bond book until she was found and probably be forced to join the fight was going on above deck. From above she could hear the voice of Honor talking to the rest of the crew. She knew that they were about to raid a slave ship and free the slaves. Jeaine would join in on the fighting but she couldn't stand the coppery smell of blood it made her sick to her stomach. She turned her attention back to her book but the lantern next to her started to burn low and not wanting to move from her comfortable spot she decided to try to take a nap. She closed her eyes and a few minutes later she fell into a light slumber.
Erika was ready to go into battle, but not that ready to try and save a bunch of slaves. She wasn't in much of a hurry. So as she was walking to her station she spotted Jeaine sleeping. She looked at her for a bit then slightly kicked her leg. She waited for a reaction but after getting none she kicked her a little harder. "You should probably wake up." She spoke in a normal voice, but it was laced with annoyance.
As Jeaine slept she felt someone kick her leg. When she woke up she saw Erika looking down at her " Oh hello Erika, thank you for waking me up." she told her as she stood up and dusted her legs off."Im guessing everyone is getting into position to fight." she bent over and started to put her stuff back into her bag.
"Yes. Everybody is getting ready." She had turned her back to the girl and crossed her arms. "To be honest, I'm not that excited for this fight. I could really care less for freeing slaves." She had spoken in a whisper, somewhat hoping Jeaine hadn't heard. She didn't want the girl behind her to go run off and tell somebody else what she had said.
When Erika answered her she heard Erika whisper something about not wanting to fight. " To be honest with you I don't really want to fight either," she told her. "That's why I came down here so I wouldn't have to fight." She told Erika lowering her voice so no one nearby could hear her.
