Contestant One
Winter Storm
It is lonely
and melancholic in the way that wind whistles
though cracks in an empty house,
across floors and crumbling walls,
casting frost over old memories
like turning over a picture frame
and finding it empty;
a single beast, cacophonous
and wild and thunderous in its isolation,
cries carried off on a breeze
to tangle among tree branches
and rest on icy, distant hills
where the only answer,
a reprieve, solace, and reflected chaos,
is an echo;
rain falling on a silent forest
as blue-gray as the skies, the clouds,
the soft mist in the air, a settling chill
bone deep, fragile, perhaps unwelcome;
obscure constellations, a waning moon,
labyrinths of stars stretched in all directions;
something ancient settling,
sleeping, restless, and alone.

Start of Spring
The caress of a soft breeze,
petrichor, flower petals floating downstream
pale water, reflections of clouds
mossy rocks, susurrus, and sunlight,
soft-lit hills and valleys
the first flowers starting to bloom,
golden light scattered on damp soil
filtered by overhead leaves and flying birds
morning dew sparkling on grass
on leaves, like crystals, glittering and clear
and gone with the rising sun;
inhaling chilled air
and stretching toward the sky
up and up, toward clouds drifting slow,
draped across mountains
and maybe heavy with more rain
a renewal, a melody with birdsong, butterflies,
creaks of swaying trees;
the yawn of an animal emerging from a den
with fangs flashing in the sunlight
and breath misting and curling wide
it stirs slowly and inexorably
the forest awakens with it.

Contestant Two
Winter's Time
The time has come;
Winter walks again, the snow is here,
warm nights have gone,
let's have some Christmas cheer.

The time has come;
the children play, jumping about,
she leaves a chilly cold,
but they run and shout.

The time has come;
the fires are lit, the cocoa is set,
the warmth fills your heart,
outside winter's winds doth fret.

The time has come:
Your bones are tired, heavy they squeak,
the pain plagues you so,
when did you get this weak?

Her whispered words o're valleys sweep,
take in the last breath, slow and deep,
you have lived long,
but the time has come to finally sleep.

Splash
SPLASH through the water I dash, scorch! the sun burns like a torch, Yum~ sorbet from my mum, Thump I hit the ball with a jump, drip, drip, drip the rain has come, I run back home with a happy yip and skip.

Contestant Three
Summer Night
Upon the howl
Of warm-water churn
Sun be swallowed
Moon rise in turn

Time be still
As silver eye
Illuminate
The dark sea tide

Peace come silent
Peace never still
A harem of beauty
A harem of chill

Walk the coarse
Run the sky
Until moon be swallowed
Full of pride

Demon Revival
Pols van vuur (Pulse of fire)
Cry, cry
Molten tears
Lies, lies
O van woede (Eyes of anger)
Cry, cry
Fireblood
Lies, lies

Hol nag (Hollow night)
Hol nag (Hollow Night)
My, my
Hallowed eve
Fall and try
Autumn Winds
Bring us to life

Contestant Four
All Hallow's Eve
When the ghosts come out to play,
Haunt you,
Trick you,
Spook you,
Under their bed sheets.

And then the vampires come out to feast,
On your blood,
No reflection,
Pale skin,
With their sharp fangs.

Finally the werewolves come out to hunt,
With their noses,
Their sharp claws,
Grizzly fur,
Powerful howls.

Winter's Wrath
Cold and dark,
Surrounds you,
Suffocates,
Old Man Winter grasps your throat.
Difficult to breathe,
A chore,
Frostbitten.

A burst of light!
The sky illuminates.
Blue, green yellow,
Wispy clouds of colour,
They dance,
Enter your eyes.

Contestant Five
Autumn's Almost Here
Colored leaves falling around, making a path for feet.
Fresh crops sprout from the ground, ready for all to eat.
Cool winds rush to town, sending summer away.
And animals start to simmer down after a full summer of play.
The world starts to cool, as the sun begins to hide
And the days become shorter, showing more of the night sky.
Red, yellow, and orange triumph the shades of green.
Autumn is almost here, what else could it mean?

Dear Winter
Here comes the cold
Bitter and numbing
Along side the dark
The earliest twilight becoming
Fresh and crisp
Snow is falling
The animals hide
Winter is calling
