Just wondering, what are scales for?
And how do you make a pet infertile?

Scales can be used at the scale shop.
Inferting a pet requires the use of the Exceptional Infertility Kit, which can be bought from the dia shop (costs less during sales). Also some people are willing to infert for others - you can try the Groups, Guilds, Clubs and Services forum if you need a pet inferted.
Projects generally mean breeding for specific colors/traits. Sometimes people start with themed pets (locked-in color palette) and try to breed to full vis with nice traits. Other times, people generate pets and use those to breed to any number of specific traits.
