So my pets have these skill trees in the prophecy menu and it doesn't do anything. How do I unlock better skills?

The different attacks are unlocked via pet level, the attack ranks, however, can only be gained by battling in the Lost Grove (the lv60+ area at the end of the currently available plot) to gain attack exp via using the moves and defeating enemies.
