ok, so I'm trying to search for an offspring from my second pet Crystal whose name is Icy(she has visible tri tails), and it says the search was too long every time I hit search, then it tells me to narrow my search. I'm using my assigned laptop at school, by the way. I wasn't having any trouble with it earlier this morning(before I left home) is this normal, and has it happened to ANYONE else?

What specifically are you trying to search for? Are you entering the pet's name, changing species to Zolnixi, searching for vis tri tails, etc.?

If you have no search parameters at all, there's a gazillion pets and AS doesn't know where to start.

If you only search for nixies, there's over 260,000 results.

If you add vis tri tails, it goes down to 55k.

If you add Icy as the pet's name, it narrows it down to 14 pets. :P

the parameters I'm using are Offspring, name is Icy, female, visible, tri tails, and released=no. Might also try adult(since Icy was an adult when I checked before a new player bought her) this is her dad, Crystal.

Huh, that's... really odd, I'm getting the same result. It shouldn't be that big a search O.o

I've been messing around with it, and for some reason it only messes up when I add Offspring as a parameter. Everything else (species name, vis trait, pet name) is fine as I add it in. But when I switch to Offspring, boom, the search is too long. Despite only having 10 results before adding it in >.>

In the future, though, you know you can look for a pet's offspring through the Lineage feature?

yes, I know. I was just too lazy to check Crystal's lineage, that's all.

Unfortunately, the way it works - the more parameters that are selected, the slower the search is going to perform because the database queries get super complicated.

In all, both the database tables for pets and the search itself aren't that great and could be done a lot better. I believe I semi-recently attempted to make the search as good as I could not that long ago, but making changes to the pet tables at this time would be a mammoth project.

Some species are affected by search issues more than others because they have a much larger population. Zolnixi, for example, have 262k owned pets atm. Morkko, on the other hand, have only 47k.

For finding offspring of a certain pet, your best bet will always be to use the Lineage page though.
