I was trying to buy a diamond or 2. I saw a sale that said 4000g a unit. The total was 400,000g How do I buy separate stacks?

You cannot. You can only buy the amount the seller has put diamonds up for. So if they're selling 10, you have to buy all 10 and if they're selling 100 you have to buy all 100. It just tells you the unit price so that you can easily compare it to other offers on the exchange
