I really like the battle concept, but am really frustrated with the grind to get 25k gold for the third party slot, heh.
I also did blow a bit of money on traps and never really had any luck catching anything, so I suppose that's partially my fault as well (as I could have read into what is worth trying to catch sooner, or just waited to try and catch any others). I am hoping by the end of the week to have a third party slot and to be able to do the dungeon in the first area and/or move on to Faerina's Shrine and do more than just one battle before having to heal.

I have briefly gone over some guides, but if any of you have any tips, feel free to shoot them my way (especially if it involves a slightly easier way to maybe make some money) ^^

I didn't know that. Goes to show how much I pay attention, hah. I feel like it hasn't been that long, but, I hadn't really been active until these past few days. :P Long weekend and busy week at work.

Have you sent any pets on missions? It's a great way to earn gold, equipment, and level your pets ^^

I've been here for about four years, so I know quite a bit about the game. Feel free to send me a message if you've got any questions.

Some initial advice from me:
- Complete the storyline before anything else. This will get you access to all areas of the map, which are pretty handy and good for grinding out some gold. It's good you are saving up for your third party slot. Get the slot as soon as you can.
- Take advantage of festivals. Sell off everything, make some gold to buy the things you actually want. Don't create pets you don't really care for. You'll understand this when the fall festival comes around.
- Send pets on missions. As soon as a pet is done, get another mission.
- Don't buy or take free pets that you don't love. Stable space is limited until you start earning gold consistently.
- Don't rely on pet sales to earn gold. The market is not good. No one will buy random offspring.

Overall, at the beginning, it is really difficult to make gold. Once you get going and take advantage of festivals you'll be able to get more stable space, which in turn, allows you to collect more pets.

@Grapejuice I have been sending them out on Missions, yep! But I am not doing so great at being successful on the ones that would give me a little extra gold, unfortunately. Healing my pets from getting stuck in the main questline or trying the dungeon outweighs what I have been able to get from missions so far.

Thanks for the tips! I do have a question. I am currently stuck on the main storyline, in the Enigmatic Grotto. I still have not been able to save up enough to get a third party slot (and keep having to heal my Sylestis, which takes away most or all of what I have earned in a day, and then some), so one of my party members gets knocked out right away and I am left with only one and am barely able to make much of a dent in the health of the cave trolls (or ogres? I think they're trolls, though). Should I just do missions only for a couple of weeks or however long it takes to get the 25k for a third party slot, or is there another way that may help earn some gold a bit faster? I have also been unable to defeat the first dungeon with only two party members, so I have been leaving it open for 24 hours and resetting to try and get a few more relics, robes, trinkets, etc to sell from that, but it seems like that's just pocket change.

And so far, I have not taken any pets I would not want. Well, not from other users, anyways. I have caught a few based off of looks or just to have a couple more before I read up on what's worth catching and what's not worth trying to catch, but since then have not bothered to try to capture any because traps are not cheap. If I can get past this Enigmatic Grotto barrier, I think I will start to do a bit better, but as of right now... I seems like I am trying to chip away at a brick wall.
