Okay, so I know that it's a popular suggestion to get Renaming swapped over to Gold rather than Diamonds, and i've heard both sides of the discussion. Note: I didn't direct quote anyone, this is just what i've seen when the topic came up before from memory. ^^
Users side: This is a strange thing to have to pay diamonds for.. what if I make a typo! This doesn't feel a worthwhile thing to pay so many diamonds for. =/
Admin side: We need to make money to continue to work on the site as this is our sole income, and it is not uncommon to be unable to rename at all on a pet site, so we consider it a premium perk.
[Which is totally true btw if you've never played on another one. It's very common to be unable to rename at all!]
So I came up with an idea that might make everyone happy, admin included.
What if instead of paying diamonds for a single name change, you payed a larger sum of diamonds to unlock an account upgrade. This account upgrade would permit you access to something.. say a Name Fairy or whatnot, that would permit you to change your pets name for a sum of gold instead of diamonds.
Comparisms:
Current: With this system, several circumstances must be met before a player is willing to purchase a name change. They must have a pet they are super attatched to, cannot easily recreate through breeding, and seriously hate the name of to actually spend 100 diamonds on. They must also be able to personally justify spending that many diamonds on such a change.
Potential for income past the new system, but the odds of 1 person finding themselves in those very specific circumstances several times over to accumulate that many sales out of them is likely pretty low.
New concept: With this system, a person pays up front the price of several name changes (Say maybe 300 diamonds?). They no longer need the specific circumstances they would need to justify the purchase in the old system, because they are purchasing a long term upgrade.
They were unlikely to ever spend that much on name changes in the first place.
The ammount of resentment for a name of any paticular pet needed is significantly diminished. Some people may even buy this without having any pets they want to change the name of yet with the 'for a rainy day' ideal.
This also presents the game with an extra gold sink, as the naming fairy could charge a pretty reasonable gold sum without anyone finding fault in the gold cost.
Explanations:
Why a Name Fairy: I imagine it would be somewhat tricky to impliment the coin option on a pet's page and have it only available to those who have the upgrade.
What if people don't want to pay 300 or so diamonds for one name change: The old system can still be left in place right alongside this one for people who really don't think they want to pay extra for the peace of mind of being able to change more names later.

I think this is a very interesting idea, and one of the best I've seen for the renaming discussions. There is one major concern though, that people would be asking others to rename their pets for them, which would potentially eliminate any amnesia philter sales (because let's face it, there's always going to be someone who's exceptionally generous and willing to do this for others).
The exceptional genetic testing kits were not intended to be used on other peoples pets, and while on one hand it is very nice that we have such friendly members in the community that people are always willing to help each other out, but it also hurts Sylestia by limiting overall sales. I cannot see this going any other way than people asking for renames the same way they ask for testing.
EDIT: I'd also like to note that I have no idea what current sales are for philters of amnesia, so for all we know this could boost total diamond sales by encouraging people who would have never bothered to get a philter of amnesia to buy the unlimited renaming. I'm just trying to point out some potential negatives.
The only possible solution I could think for this would be to either make renamed other peoples pets for them against the rules, or somehow limit peoples ability to trade a pet right after being renamed (such as making a pet unable to to trade for a day or so after it is renamed). Sadly, that would neither eliminate the problem all together, and it would probably end up being a massive problem for people who rename a pet they've decided they want to sell.
In other words I have no really great suggestion to fix the problem orz

Oh man this is actually a great idea.
Though by the wording of the OP, it seems that there are limited charges [300 diamonds for maybe 5 uses as an example] per Naming Fairy, so it is very unlikely that it will be used as generously as the Exceptional Test Kits.
This could open up a so-called 'renaming service' users may charge others for gold, items, etc. This way, people still have a chance to snag a name change with gold instead of paying diamonds while the diamond buyer
Which does have its merits as a community thing, but any economic repercussions that could result from this aren't coming to mind at the moment aha.

I support this idea - I had accidentally added an extra S to one of my pet's names aha so it sort of sounds wonky uwu;; to me, that is. This idea doesn't really have much reasons to deny it, so it sounds like a good idea. I don't usually rename pets, and it seems like a hassle to pay 100 diamonds to simply change a S uwu;; So I definitely support this /from the one who makes name mistakes a bit easily/

I had not considered that, Ash. It's a good point. Though I think Draco's interpretation of it being something with charges would be a great way to curb that.
If it's limited uses, then it still saves you diamonds, still gives more incentive to the purchase, but also makes you unlikely to be really giving those uses away when you may need them later yourself. ^^

Yes, I think limited charges is just what it would need!

Also, OP said that the Name Fairy would charge you gold for a name change. I don't think people would be willing to waste gold on renaming another players pet? ^-^' Although, I could be wrong...

@Edibbs,
Just have to price the pet at whatever the gold charge for renaming would be.
/plays devils advocate cause I do honestly support this idea

The weird thing is that you have to still pay the diamond fee for "renaming" nameless pets.
