So I'll be getting a kitten as soon as I clean my room. I don't want to start an argument about keeping it indoors or not, so I'm just going to ask for recommendations.
How often and how long should I play with it?
Also any tips such as putting butter on it's paws overnight. (On the first night. They lick it off and then they don't run away.) Or like playing with it's mouth and stuff so it's better when vets try to look at it's teeth.
I've had cats all my life and my current cat I raised from a kitten.
I also heard I should teach it to get baths. Why do people bath their cats? I never understood it. Though I do plan on doing this, but you know, why?
I also want to teach it to walk on a lead.
Anyway, any tips and such?

If its a boy, I would get it neutered. one they get older, they might venture away to look for females, even if there are ways to keep him on the property he will still run and has a chance of getting lost. I lost 2 of my cats from that so just be careful.

Thanks, However the shelter I'm getting him from neuters them all before they sell them. (they're still little so there are some slight ethical issues around that. But it's their policy to de-sex all their animals before they sell them)
Oh yeah. assuming the kitten I want is still there, His name will be Arthor to match Merlin(my current cat)

I plan to spend a little while cuddling the kittens before I take mine home. why? cuz they let you do that.
(each to their own. Like I said, I don't want to start anything in this thread)
as another side note, he's black and white and half tailed. Like it's longer than a manx tail. but they kept calling him manx tailed. but like manx can have no tails or just stubs. this little boy had a short but not missing tail.
sorry, he's super cute. I love him.

Cute name!!
Iv had lots of cats.
A few thing you want to teach them:
"Down" a command for them to jump off a bed or couch (Start with lower objects first and then get progressively higher, jumping from a hight can hinder or damage a growing kittens bones.)
"Stay" Just so they don't fallow you out the door when you leave the house
"Come here" just as it sounds- teach after you got the "Stay"
Avoid giving milk after the kitten is weaned- it can give adolescents and adult cats indigestion.
I suggest a microchip implant with the pets name, your name, a reliable phone number, and your address.
A tag on their collars with the above information again.
Keep two or three letterboxes around the house and litter train them. (Its harder to train males because they tend to spray to mark territory)
The only cat I ever have to give a bath are the hairless ones or the really long haired breeds. (Unless of course they jumped in a puddle and are soaked in mud!)
Even if you have a short coat breed I suggest keeping a cat brush and a lint roller around. (Brush at least once a week to remove shedding fur.)
If you live in cold weather keep kitty in the house or have a spare dog house or doggy door so they can get to a sheltered place. (Bring them the house or garage or secure shed before a storm hits.)
I Will edit as I remember more things to add.

Thank you! I'm pretty sure they come microchiped, but otherwise, I'll defiantly get it done. As for the collar, my other cat refused to wear one, so I fully intend to have my kitten get used to wearing one.
(seriously, we've tried him with 2 different collars and he's pulled them off and lost them in the bush. We kinda gave up. I tend to have the philosophy that you can't MAKE cat's do anything. they either agree to do that you want or they don't. (I can defiantly try to train my kitten though. ))

With my 40 some cats over the years (I promise only 5 at a time) I have found that cat collars don't really work.
Cats hate bells so don't bother (It ruins the point of being stealthy). I have found that dog collars tend to work better, they are more sturdy and lighter (And no bell!!). The three cats I have now all wear dog collars that I got from Walmart. I buy the collars for the extra small or toy dogs depending on how big the cat will get. (Toms are slightly bigger and thus require the slightly bigger collar.)

We had the bell on my current cat to try and stop him from killing sugar gliders.
I always thought dog collars looked sturdier. I'll be sure to invest in one :3.

You're lucky that you can train cats, my cat won't listen to anything. She will only comply if she wants it as well, unfortunately getting off of counters and things is not on that list.
