So I've gotten into the breeding a lot recently, and I've been wondering: What do Carried Traits do? I'm assuming it has the possibility to pass traits onto an offspring, but I'm not sure. I'm also wondering if you can have eggs genetically tested before they have hatched. Thanks!

Carried traits can be passed on to offspring. Especially if the one you are breeding the sylestie with has the same trait, carried or visible. And no, you can't genetically test an eggling before it hatches.

Carried traits have a 50% chance of being passed down.
Each trait takes a "gene" from each parent, and has a 50% chance of passing either down to its offspring. So a carried trait has a "gene" in one slot, and nothing in the other slot, and has 50% chance of passing down the "gene " or nothing

does it show whether or not it actually carries it, or do you have to use the gene thing to find out?

You have to use a genetic test kit to find out what carried traits a Sylesti has.
