Everything was dark. I found it hard to open my eyes as they felt heavy and groggy. As I came into consciousness, I started hearing voices.
"She's beautiful!" A caressing voice said gently.
"that doesn't matter. As long as she grows to be powerful enough to be picked." A somewhat more gruff voice stated, sounding as though it was trying to emulate a plain and bored tone, but you could tell it was happy and proud.
"Oh, don't say that, Broken" The voice said playfully ", look! She's opening her eyes!" The voice said, hushed, but excitedly.

I opened my eyes to see some sort of creature hovering over me.

"She's beautiful!" said the voice I'd heard before, this time coming from the creature above me. As my eyes started to focus, I could make out it's body. It seemed to be black and green, but I felt a connection to the colors for some reason. No, not just to the colors, but to the creature herself.

Spirits:


"Spirits, I know you'll be a great mother!" the rough voice said, obviously overjoyed as it's pitch steadily grew higher. I tried to angle my head towards the voice but had trouble doing so. Spirits - no, the word that 'Broken' had said... Mother, felt more natural to me - must have noticed, because she gingerly turned me around so I could see the speaker. He was also black and green, but looked much stronger than my delicate mother. He was larger than her too.

Broken:


"No, Broken, I know you'll be a great father." Mother said happily.

I smiled and giggled, not knowing of what would become of my future...

Several Years Later...

"Hidden! Where are you?" Mother called from across the field," I need help with something!"
"Coming mother!" I shouted back "One moment!"
I trotted back across the field and went over to where she was standing. She seemed a bit agitated as she stood over father, and had a worried look on her face.

"I need you to stay here with your father while I get the shaman from town," She said worriedly "He isn't coping too well against his illness."
I nodded swiftly and went over to make sure he was comfortable, but before doing so, I looked up at mother and asked, " What about you? You said it was dangerous to travel alone." She merely looked down at her paws and muttered she would be alright before setting off towards the nearest village.
I looked down at my father, he seemed to be shivering and his breaths were heavy. My heart started to swell, but he started to whisper something.

"Hidden, while she's gone, I ask that you do something."

He noticed my bewildered look and started to explain.

"Hidden, I know that I will not last much longer... There is something that I always wished for you, but your mother.... let's just say she didn't approve... He said quietly.
"What... What would mother not 'approve?'" I said, still shaken after he said he would pass soon.
You may not know this, but your mother and I are Knowledgends. Knowledgends are considered to be of great power, but of evil descent. I'm sure you've heard of the mystic first beings, Adam and Eve. They were of pure innocence before they ate from the great tree of knowledge, however, they were not the only creature to eat from the tree of knowledge, for a different race was born from the fruits. Though a Zolnixi and a Knowledgend may look the same, they are of different origins. Zolnixis, have the pure of heart, and though they are not completely innocent, as time has forced them away from that, they are not of completely evil descent. However, Knowledgends are different. We are of a complete evil... "
as he finished the sentence, a red aura seemed to rise from the ground itself and a dark being rose from the shadow of my father. It grew and grew until it seemed to tower over me. My only thought was...
'help'

but as soon as it came, it was gone. My father gave a little chuckle and said, "You saw him, didn't you?"

I took a step back in sheer fright. What would that... thing do to me! Who was my father!

"Don't worry, I wouldn't let him hurt you even in the state that I'm in. I just had to show you the difference between a zolnixi and a knowledgend."

I nodded, still in shock when the thought hit me. If my parents are knowledgends, would that make me...?
