how bad is this? I tried...I really did. Only to get a negative comment from my dad. IDK why I even try to draw anymore...DX
Maybe drawing isn't really my thing after all...

I honestly think it looks fantastic! I can obviously tell it is indeed a cat. I'd be more concerned if you said it was supposed to be a bird.

Critics: I'd say look for a light source to help guide you in shading the fur. I know fur can be hard to shade at times of you have multiple tones going on. Don't forget shading also helps define the face!

Sometimes I feel people don't know how to help with things they don't understand. :(

Oh my gosh! I love your style! Your dad was completely wrong about you. You have so much potential! Continue on with Art, it will serve you well.

Well, to be honest, it could use a lot of improvement.
But when I know something looks strange on my art, I just can't seem to get it the way I want. *growls at computer*
The perspective is very nice, but looking at realistic cat anatomy charts and stuff could help quite a bit.
It helps, but I still can't draw felines very well... *coughs*
I really like the eyes. The shading is very nice and they actually look very good. I can never decide on how to draw eyes. xD
Really, this picture is ok. I can tell you it's not the best, but with practice, it certainly would be! Don't give up. ^-^

Oh yeah, do you have a Deviant Art account?

No, I don't...Deviantart is for the good artists. hehe...^^
I guess I wasn't going for complete realism anyway.

Aw, but you're getting so great! You're improving very quickly. You should make one at some point. :P

First of all, this is amazing.

Parents will be parents and they wont really understand how to tell their kids constructively how to do better. Im not saying that you should just accept that he'll do that, but just to understand that you need to hear him out and see where he said it was bad. Next time ask him where it looks bad and then go back and make it better and rub it in his face. (Actually, that last part might not be necessary but you get the gist of it)

Second, I would recommend looking at some real time pictures or as others have said before me, references to help you with shading. The head shape could use a little work, but overall its very nice. The fur is a very hard part and I understand how showing every strand of fur is possibly your goal in this, and to show how realistic the cat looks, but remember, fur is very thin. Take your time and be patient with this, you will most definitely improve! The eyes look phenomenal!

I'm not a professional, but I can tell you that you are headed in the right direction :) don't let someone's silly comment put you in a negative mood to a point where you make your thread title, "*cries*...why do I even try?" Its a bit uncomfortable to read and it will make you feel worse in a sense. I want you to be proud of your work, no matter how early you started, or how well you think it looks. Stay positive and keep a forward outlook on drawing. It can only get better!

Heres a quick bit on my anatomy for cats! (if you click the picture it will send you to a link where you can zoom in if you cant see)
