Any one listen to rap or punk rock? Here is a place you can share your favorite songs, bands, suggestions, and people that give us this amazing music.

My favorite song? Ha, I can't decide on just one. Currently I really like Mockingbird by Eminem, Brain Stew by Green Day, and Brother by Falling In Reverse. Brother always leaves me in tears tho.

Bands? BVB, Green Day, Linkin Park, Eminem, Black Sabbath (going to their concert :D )

Suggestions: Fort Minor is a great band. I specifically like Remember The Name and High Road

Favorite People? Easy question, Billy Joe Armstrong, Mike Durnt, and Tre Cool. Gotta love them for the joy the bring into my mind.

Oh god, Brain Stew. Minority and Warning are my faves tho. Nice Guys Finish Last is fun, and i do have a soft spot for Letterbomb and Are We The Waiting. Idk if they're punk rock so much as pop punk as of late though...

I know the Ramones are old school punk, though i've heard them classified as classic rock lately. They're good.

Other than that, i'm a little too new to rap to give recs, but i'm totally coming back to see what others post.

Linkin Park and Three Days Grace aren't punk though? They're more along the lines of Alt Rock/Rock...their lyrics are more ballad-like too, not rebellious and anti-establishment.

But idk if rock/alt stuff is still included in this thread XD

*is very defensive about punk as a genre & subculture*
*knows more ABOUT punk than about actual bands*

Ghost Town sounds interesting, might check them out sometime. I'm bouncing ALL over with tastes lately, heh

Their pre-American Idiot stuff falls under pop-punk, yeah. Everything else since has lost the semblance of punk sound, but the lyrics are still more or less applicable.

Oh, i'm not saying any band isn't good, just...not sure how purely punk rock we're talking here, heh!

Punk has a real raw, empowering feeling to it, from dislike of authoritive figures and rejection of societal norms to just trying to survive in a world that wants you to be something you're not. The messages like that led to the visual lifestyle that's associated with it. A lot of the early bands, and even more recent ones, got themselves fame and gigs and stuff on their own, they worked for themselves. Think garage bands, some with better equipment, heh.

It gave way to a lot of other genres, namely Alt, grunge, emo, etc, so it starts blurring out a bit, so it can get hard to tell. Plus they mix with other genres and wow confusing. And a lot of them, like afropunk, riotgrrl, and queercore, are minority-specific subgenres. Plus there's the other subgenres like seapunk which are actually just punk in the name.

(Sorry, helping cook thanksgiving food, and eating it)

what about Red? The band, lol not the color... though it is a color... thats besides the point, but what is Red categorized as?
also i think ghost town is like electronic i think, i mean its like a mix of everything, rock/alt rock i think
idk i just love them esoecially their new album, look at that, that might be punk rock with how the lyrics are said and stuff, especially loner, listen to that first :D
