Welcome to the Sylestia Garden Club where you can share stories and pictures of plants or your garden and ask questions and share tips. Please let me know if you'd like to be a member. We might have contests from time to time and so it would be handy to be able to ping. Also, you can mention your hardiness zone and some particular plants or gardening that you're interested in to be added next to your name if you wish. That's totally optional.

Posting can begin now.

I actually got a bit of a shock while setting this up. I went to see if I could find good hardiness zone maps and found out I'm in zone 9a and not zone 8b like I thought.

Hello yes I love to garden oh man Hardiness zone 6b, the weather is a bit finicky here but at the very least being in a apartment means I can bring the more temperamental ones inside

whoops I got a bit excited there and hit post early. Anyhoo, I do mostly herbs and veggies because they both look nice and are useful, though I do have some flowers here and there. I will always always have at least one pot of celosia and a fuchsia each year, and sometimes some hibiscus and butterfly bushes.

But herbs are really where it's at man, they general have really cute flowers, they smell amazing, and they're useful year round. Even if they can't all survive the winter, whatevers left near the first frost gets picked and dried.

Look at this picture of my little patio garden. Thank god I'm on the first floor cause it's spilled well beyond the actual patio. We may move to a house next year though and oh man it's gonna be great

I've been curious about growing more herbs myself. I do have a lemon thyme but I just haven't branched out yet. I've been thinking of looking at ones that are perennials.

Also welcome!

Edit: Forgot to include how much I love the picture of your patio. They look so happy. What are those big broad leafed plants in the back?

The really tall one is an eggplant. There are actually two of them in that same pot, I only planted one but there was apparently a rogue sprout in the soil :O I thought maybe they could both be in there but it's looking like I'm going to have to repot the smaller one.

The other in the huge pot is a serpent gourd. It look a little while to get that size, but as soon at it found the trellis it took off like mad (they tend to get huge in just a year, I'm going to have to fight to keep it off the upstairs neighbors patio). It's only been about a week since I took that photo, but it's already nearly got a four foot vine up the trellis

I looked up the serpent gourd and the flowers on them are really fascinating looking!

I also forgot to ask, would you want me to add to the membership list that your interests are in herbs and veggies?
