Here are a couple not-so-unheard-of ones I read:
VGcats: Cats that play video games, non sequential, humor
Homestuck: Kids get stuck in a video game-like world, sequential, super long and worth it, gore, 13+, humorous at times
Romantically Apocalyptic: Two main characters, presumably male, take on the apocalypse... No romance that I am aware of, is sort of graphic so I would recommend 13+, sequential, humor
Uh... More, but I can't think of them. >0>
Forgotten did a great job on their post so I'm going to I prettified mine.

Okay so I have a huge list of things to recommend but I'm on a different computer so for now you only get the really memorable ones!
Unsounded - Follow the tailed and mischievous Sette Frummagem and her 'Guard Zombie', Duane, as they travel to collect a debt her uncle owes - and meet trouble along the way. The world they live in is full of crime, racism, and danger, and with magic and monsters added into the mix, they're in for a world of trouble. Absolutely gorgeous art and brilliant worldbuilding! Warnings for blood, gore, non-explicit sexual content, occasional non-sexual nudity, some body horror, pee, and lots of swearing. The site rates itself for 15+!
Alterity - Robin, our gender-ambiguous protagonist, is ready to start their Pokemon journey! Buuut they decide to steal their first Pokemon. What an outstanding moral rolemodel. They learn a lot, and their Pokemon do, too, along the way. Death has a way of doing that. My absolute favorite Pokemon Nuzlocke, it goes into grim details about the league and trainer system, the consequences of battling, morality, and so on. Warnings for blood, gore, swearing, and character death, as with most Nuzlockes!
Monster Soup - A zombie who rebelled against the Zombie Army, A witch with debatable powers, A ghost who takes haunting very seriously, A tomboy werewolf who goes full-feminine when wolfed out, and a vampire who refuses to stop being what he is. All are criminals, all are sentenced to live in Oubliette Castle until further notice. Great art and interesting characters! Warnings for blood, gore, non-sexual non-explicit nudity, swearing, zombie blood being a drug, and the devil I guess gets a warning too! The site itself has a warning up for Mature Content! I don't know what's in store, but I'll take down this recommendation if it turns into something I don't think kids should read, but so far it'd fit into the same 15+ category Unsounded's in
Skin Deep - Another fun story about a plethora of mythological creatures and their society! They even include the Bandersnatch and lesser-known beasts like the Buggane :D That's pretty much the synopsis for this one - too many seperate interconnecting storylines. You'll just have to read it, huh? >:) Only warnings are for blood, swearing, and possibly body horror!
Prague Race - Leona just moved into her first apartment, and she decides to buy a strange poster from a strange little oddities shop nearby. But she and her friends have no idea just how odd that poster is... Fancy that, another story about mythological creatures ehehehe I love the sketchy art style of this one, and the characters make me smile, I love them~ Warnings for blood, swearing, and possibly body horror!
A Redtail's Dream - A young fox accidentally sent an entire town on their way to tuonela, the final resting place, and now it's up to Hannu and his dog, Ville, to journey through the fox's dream world and save their town's population. Folkloreeee @w@ This one was recommended in the chat that threw out the idea of a recommendations topic, but I can't remember by who? So I'm recommending it now! Beautiful art and a wonderful storyline, if you're familiar with Finnish Mythology you'll recognize a heavy influence! Warnings for blood, some body horror/gore, and some swearing, but pretty well suitable for anyone! This is a completed webcomic!
Stand Still, Stay Silent - A rash disease spread throughout the world, sending humanity into a new age. While Iceland quickly isolated itself and became the center of the Known World and many other safe settlements have been established in the other Nordic countries and Finland, much of the world is still diseased and dangerous. Trolls and vermin hunt in the Silent World, and humanity has renewed its faith in the old Icelandic gods. Finland, however, puts its faith into its folklore. The comic follows a team of researchers, ready to venture out into the Silent World - they hope. A new comic by the creator of A Redtail's Dream, this one's post-apocalyptic and looks like it has a touch of Nordic and Finnish folklores! Really great so far~ Warnings for blood, body horror, and swearing!
The Girl from Hell City - Wendy has heard tales of the war that banished Demons from the surface, but the only thing she knows for sure? They were the bad guys. She holds onto hope that she can change Hell City, and with a human actually showing up? Well, she might just have that chance. The main character is an awesome demon girl who wants to change Hell city, there's a demon that speaks solely in sign language, and the first human character we really see is a POC! Beyond all that, the color schemes are gorgeous and each character has a distinct personality and design~ It's currently on hiatus, but trust me, StrangelyKatie's comics are well worth the wait! Warnings for blood and swearing!
Don't Let Go - An 8-page short comic by StrangelyKatie! Won't give away any details on it, though~ Warnings for blood, wounds, and depictions of war zones! This is a completed webcomic!
Princess Princess - Two princesses (one with kickbutt hair, a sword, and a unicorn, who's a POC, the other trapped in a tower with a chubby little dragon) and a prince (who honestly can't stand being a prince) and romance between the princesses, this comic kinda twists the whole damsel in distress stereotypical gender roles thing we see so often! It's a fresh take and I love it! Another StrangelyKatie comic. Warnings for mental and verbal abuse and death, but they're very minor things in the story and it's super friendly for all ages! It would make a good bedtime story for little kids, even, if you wanted to verbally expand on the panels~ This is a completed webcomic!
Counting Stars - Another short comic by StrangelyKatie, 7 pages this time, no warnings! This is a completed webcomic!
In case you haven't noticed I really love StrangelyKatie's diversity and character design/development and art style and storytelling wowow
Widdershins - A stage magician with the magical power of kleptomania (oops I accidentally stole a thing), a woman who hunts possibly dangerous magical artifacts, a convict who can see spirits and emotions, and an actual magician in charge of cleaning up after summons gone wrong. What could possibly go wrong? Largely set in the 1800s, but with magic, those are just a few of the characters you'll meet! Intertwining yet separate storylines~ Warnings for blood, swearing, and various crime!
The Property of Hate - Follow a young Hero and her television-headed guide, RGB, try to save a world made of thought where Dreams can heal, Fears, Lies, Doubts, Ideas, and Grief come to life, and everything is never as it seems. Wonderful, technicolor art, great characters, and the perfect balance between philosophy and comedy, you never know what'll happen next! An astounding comic by Madmod. Warnings for blood, body horror?, some mild swearing, and some truly strange images and concepts!
The Muse Mentor - In this world, most everyone's a Notion, the beginnings of an idea, the spirit of a thought. But the Muses, the people with pure talents who pass the test, well, sometimes, you just want to be them. Mona wants to be one of them, and manages to convince a writing muse, Esteban, to mentor her - and it just escalates from there. A diverse cast, a wonderful style, and a cool notion! I definitely suggest it~ It's a story about breaking out of self-set boundaries, finding what you love, and following that path! No warnings yet!
Monsterkind - A human social worker gets sent out to live and work in District C, mostly populated by monsters that aren't exactly friendly towards humans. These are his struggles trying to make their lives better. Cute style, great colors, and overall a pretty fun comic so far! Warnings for blood and swearing!
Mokepon - Atticus wants no part in this 'Pokemon Trainer' thing. A non-nuzlocke Pokemon comic wowow that's actually pretty rare. Anyways! For all those who want the option to not be the big hero in your Pokemon games, this comic explores that route. And the style is absolutely wonderful. Warnings for blood, swearing, and death!
I'll leave it at that for now! I did my best to thoroughly warn y'all for each one, and I'll gladly remove any recommendation if a mod or admin deems it unsuitable for the players!
Note: I specify POC main characters because I feel representation in media is important and I feel like it's noteworthy, considering a lot of the popular media lacks it! Please take no offense from it :)
If it seems like I'm being overly cautious I must remind you: children. Gotta care for the children
and no I most certainly don't have a soft spot for mythology and folklore whatever gave you that idea?
geeze that's a lot and I have more someone stop me

I've got a few to recommend. Please bear with me as I'm not the best at describing things.
Gunnerkrigg Court - Follow the tale of a fire headed girl and her school life at the Gunnerkrigg Court. At 49 chapters and still going, please don't let the initial art of this webcomic turn you away: stay with the story and you'll see a massive improvement in art. I don't believe there's been anything that would rate it higher than PG or PG13.
Cucumber Quest - Like cute rabbits? Like Action RPGs where you save the princess and therefore the world? Welcome to Cucumber Quest, where a boy named Cucumber just wants to go to magic school and his sister wants to be the Hero. CQ is for all ages.
A Ghost Story - A mature comic for mature people, A Ghost Story follows the lives of two adults trying to survive paycheck to paycheck while hunting ghosts. This dark comedy is not a stranger to blood, and body horror. The lowest rating I'd give it is 15+, as I don't know what the artist has planned for the future content wise.
Broodhollow - A horror comic that's a better archive read then a serial one, it's a lot easier to miss the small details that make this one so great reading it serially as I've found. This is another 15+ comic with blood, body horror, and murder. And if bats freak you out, this comic probably isn't for you.
Ava's Demon - Ava's had a demon ever since she was born. An angry, wrathful spirit who tries to get her to harm herself when she ignores her. She keeps going on and on about a "pact". Who would ever make a pact with someone like her? PG13, maybe? Warnings for Self Harm, Blood, and Death.
Blindsprings - When you hear about a fable that's about a girl with her own forest of hair who's trapped in a contract with spirits, your first reaction should be to try and rescue her from those spirits, naturally! Not like you'd mess up some ancient pact that's there to try and save her sister or anything. Blindsprings is for all ages.

Don't forget to warn that Homestuck is super violent and bloody~
I know I forget about it since the blood is rainbow, but it's still blood.
I would probably rate Homestuck at least PG13, if not higher since it does have some adult themes. (and sloppy make-outs~)

Updated my post with A Redtail's Dream and Stand Still, Stay Silent! (with handy links here!)
Eventually I'll add actual synopsis of the stories but for now, meh. Can't be bothered 'till I'm on my own comp ehehehe
*punches self for forgetting Blindsprings and Ava's Demon because they're amazing and I am ashamed*
EDIT: Added like ten more suggestions and italicized updated synopses! Hurrah!
I still have 27 to go through and synopsize and warn and decide whether or not I should even recommend them oh god

The realm in which the story takes place is a mixture of loosely interpreted Norse mythology and original ideas of the authors. The main plot line revolves around a pack of wolves led by their alpha to meet a mysterious sage, who is going to decide about the destiny of the youngest member of the group. The synopsis doesn't do the comic justice, and the art is freaking amazing!
Warnings for Gore and Death
Meela is a young, orphaned lupian (a race of people with wolf-like features) who is struggling to survive on her own. A chance encounter on less than pleasant terms teams her up with Feral, another lupian who happens to be a mute as well as one of the best mercenaries in the land, and who is not quite so welcoming of her forced company as she would like to believe. Fun, danger and plenty of humorous situations follow the two on their wayward adventures, however the seemingly peaceful world they reside in is not quite the paradise that its reputation makes it out to be. When a taboo topic and a dark secret collide, it may unravel their already tattered lives and force each of them to face the reality of the truth, requiring each to make decisions that could alter their lives forever.
Set in a post-modern alternate reality, dream*scar show a world where Unhumans, the creatures of myth and lore, live openly amongst humans. The Reveal only happened some 20 years ago, and so times are still relatively chaotic for everyone involved [racism especially rampant]. Admist all this is a girl named Vix. She knows she is an unhuman, and she knows how they are treated, but she is lucky -- she's an empath, and her powers easily hidden. But when something goes wrong, and people end up dead, she begins to realize that there's more to her abilities than she can even comprehend...
On a cold December night, a gentleman stumbles into the town of Esk, gunshot wounds leaving a trail of blood in the snow behind him. Despite making a full recovery at the hands of an inexperienced nurse - and deciding to make a new life for himself in the town - he is unable to escape the supernatural beings, both good and bad, that seem to follow him like shadows. Amazing art, and Completed!
Warning: Contains horror, violence, supernatural themes, drug use, and brief suggestive content. PG-13.
Misfile
It chronicles the story of Ash Upton and Emily McArthur who, after a universal filing error in the Celestial Filing Depository, find that their lives are very different than they were the day prior. Emily has become two years younger and Ash has swapped sexes completely, and is now a girl. In order to change things back to the way they were, they must play along to ensure that Rumisiel (the angel who caused this mess in the first place!) gets back into heaven before the bosses find out and make the changes permanent.
