Especially since genealogy of our pets will be available soon, I'd like to recommend switching the renaming item, Philter of Amnesia, from diamonds to gold. (That is unless you sell these really often for diamonds since site income is important.) Anyway, the way things are set up right now, naming reduces the value of pets and many pets remain unnamed. Also, sometimes people just can't decide on a good name and since naming costs diamonds might just leave it blank. If this continues when we can see genealogy then there'll probably be a whole bunch of offspring just labeled unknown.

I was thinking if the philter is switched to diamonds that there'd be a few benefits.

1. Easier to find offspring in the genealogy since people would be more likely to name pets.
2. Pets more likely to retain value.
3. Really big gold sink. Would be particularly good if the philters don't generally sell often as they are.
4. People would enjoy feeling more at ease naming pets.

When I do get diamonds, I want to spend them on stables, and GGMs/GPDs, or monthly avatar items! Having to spend 100 precious diamonds on a philter of amnesia because I made a naming oops? Not top of my list >>

And I certainly think about 10 times before buying a named pet, because I know I'm not going to be buying a philter to rename it.

I support this all the way, so long as renaming philters aren't bringing in a mass of money for the site, like Savynn says.

I get that once a pet is named it should be special, but there are tons of un-named pets out there. I'm guilty of it as well, because I want the name to be fitting for a pet and if I happen to decide to want to sell it, naming it drops the value so much if people don't like the name.

I've been thinking about how the naming should be special. I think if the gold price to rename is at least a certain amount then that would deter constant renaming of pets. But it should be easier to rename than it is. I kinda think pets feel more special when they are named, but I'm also really bad about naming pets for fear of later regrets.

It would have to be a significant price, maybe 100k to 200k? It's a significant chunk of change, so it would still require some deep thought before naming, but it's still manageable to make that much to change a name when needed.

Yah or at least being able to re-name after you buy it from someone (the second person who has the pet), but once it is re-named from someone else, then once it gets to the third person, they will need a philter of amnesia. Like I see a lot of people with pets for sale that they bred and they name it like with all these random letters, and I don't buy it because I don't want pets that I have to spend a filter of amnesia on because they have a really weird name.

I think that this is a fantastic idea! This would make genealogy a lot easier and would help people when deciding wether or not to name pets. Plus, I personally wouldn't think that it would be bringing in the site much income since there a way better (or more useful) things, in my opinion, to buy with diamonds than a Philter of Amnesia. Though, if it is indeed bringing in the site money, I would keep it diamond.

Why switch all Philters of Amnesia to gold (especially if you're thinking the 200k range) when you can just buy 100 diamonds for 250k gold from the exchange? I'm not sure how much real money is generated through the sale of these, but it seems like we'd be paying the same amount for it either way, while when they are bought with diamonds the site is at least making money for future expansions and improvements.

I have to go with Fresh on this; the Philter of Amnesia should remain a diamond item.
