go to the pet you want's page. If it isn't for sale, you can't buy it. it should say view prices. if you have enough gold, you can buy it. click on view prices. and then click buy. that should automatically transfer that pet into your stables and it will appear in your account overview, which pet you bought and for how much gold.

Adding on to Leah's explanation.

Pets can be earned by basically buying, catching them, making them (in the 4 big fests) or getting them as an award in an forum/fest event.
