Hello all and to start i'd like to give a definition of the word copypasta: found here
Now you may all be wonder, what does this have to do with sylestia?
I would like to direct your attention to some user profiles, and from this point on I would like to clarify:
*do not harass or callout users with problematic copypastas in their bios, that will not do any good*
Now over my years on this site I have seen a number of these shared across the site, and I am only talking about the problematic ones with extreme underlying adult tones, I am not talking about things like... say, this. This is not an issue, there is nothing wrong here.
Mine and several others issues come up with ones like these, and a content warning as well before you go and look at any: there are adult themes, words, and victim blaming. all screenshots taken from sylestia profiles
Example 1
Example 2
Example 3
Example 4, part 1
Example 4, part 2
Example 5
Now I would like to clarify that 2 and 3 are not as bad as 1 and 4 but the message/idea behind them just seem a little inappropriate. Personally I would say 1 and 4 are very very inappropriate and have topics in them that are not appropriate for Sylestia. Number 4 also has a weird victim blame vibe about since the girl in the story didn't believe in god, causing her to fall to harm.
Not only is that harmful information, it's encouraging the spreading of harmful info via guilt tripping. If people were spreading messages like this in chain mail over DMs it would be considered problematic, i'd like too see the same stance taken when it's posted on a public profile.
Now there are more then just what I included here but these are the main ones i've seen reposted, if you have more examples that you deem inappropriate send me screenshots and I can include them on the thread but PLEASE do not go posting peoples usernames on a public forum.
I don't know how a ban would be implemented but me and several other users are uncomfortable by the abundant amount of users who have this on their profile and would like to see something done.
If you have some I did not post feel free to post them as image links if they are adult themed and with the usernames/profile/avatar blurred out or not included.

I agree. I've been sick of seeing copypastas while on sylestia, usually looking through people's profiles for that note that says 'don't release my pets.'
As someone who personally dealt with self harm, seeing the struggles I faced be trivialized in these textposts is incredibly hurtful and sometimes triggering, not to mention insanely insensitive.

This is an "About Me" problem. The "About Me" section needs filters to block out inappropriate words. Some buttons and functions like the ones in the forum editing page would also be nice.

The problem isn't exactly "bad" words. Much of the content on these copypastas are suggestive, forcefully religious, etc. etc.
While a filter could do something, that would be incredibly difficult (near impossible) to do because it's so easy to bypass them.

Manually removing every single copy-pasta, let alone finding them, would be time-consuming and tedious work. More players will always join and add more copypastas.
Handing out bans for these triggering copypastas or at least making it known that they are not allowed might also quell the issue somewhat, but I do believe that the "About Me" section needs filters.
I do completely agree with you. These copypastas need to go.

I completely agree, something needs to be done. These are highly inappropriate and potentially triggering. Even if the fix is just a player-controlled filter where each player can set specific words to be filtered for themselves, and if they go to a profile that displays any of those words, the profile text simply will not show for them. This could be a setting players could set from their own profile, with a differently colored button to stand out and be noticeable, and when you click the button, there could be a short description of how it works and why it was implemented so that players who do not know of this thread also know how to use it and why. This would be a much easier fix than trying to block words site-wide, or look on every profile to determine which ones have inappropriate text.

Why not just add a report option like on regular posts?

Exactly this.
A 'filter' would be nigh on ineffective because most of those copy pastas use ordinary words, and filtering those particular words would get many many more non-problematic about mes than not.
I think that a report button on the about me, and perhaps a ban on just copy/pastas in general (as it could be a bit difficult to determine which ones are 'okay' and which ones 'are not okay' at times) as the about me is supposed to be about the user, or as many use it, user notes.
I don't know how well a ban like that would go over, though, but it might help some. It also gives a basis for punishments that can be handed out if/when people continue to post copy/pastas to their profiles.
