I think having guilds for players to have a community of friends, and to compete with other players for top rankings. There could also be guild chat boards for each guild! :D I have player numerous virtual pet games, and Sylestia is by far the best. I thought to help it stand out, it could use guilds. Also, this could go well with the PvP that is in the work in progress list. :)

I think this may have been talked about a long time ago in general chat., but regardless it's a good idea. I'd personally like to see both guilds and clubs. Guilds could be used much the same as how other games with them use them. One could join only one guild but multiple clubs. Clubs could be anything from working together on a specific breeding project or a group of people who like talking about art with each other.

Yeah, I remember a discussion about this in general chat too XD I would totally support this, though it may take a long time before it's implemented. It's not in the already suggested list on the forums though, so I really hope this idea goes through! :D
Edit: that's why we had like a mini guide before that's not really official XD

While I'm here...I'd like to say I think a cool guild system can have:
-custom-guild titles (made by guild-maker/leader, approved by admin?, can have a certain fee of guild points or gold)
-guild pages (I'd assume the URL could be like sylestia.com/guildid=1 for visiting, and sylestia.com/guild for home page for guild!), could be similar to profile pages but for the collective guild, along with a bulletin/forum layout
-rankings within the guild O: reminds me of Neopets or SAO LOL
These are probably things other guild systems have...xD

It's already planned for us to have player housing in the future. I wonder about having a guild headquarters as well using the same sort of idea?

Guild Headquarters would be pretty cool. I didn't realize this had been talked about before though. I'm glad I'm not the only one who would like to see this implemented though. :)

I may be the minority here, but the idea of guilds makes me highly uncomfortable...

I can kinda see why.
When social systems start to make groups, it kinda builds more into clique stereotypes or elitism at times. (You can see it in games, where if you play long enough, you might know one super-pretentious guild that has a reputation, notorious or not.)
I know for a fact that cliques, when gone awry and catty, are a bad influence to a site and its community. Well, okay, I don't know for a fact. xD; But that does make individual and/or new members feel intimidated at times.
Aside from that, I've seen both types of guilds: friendly, helpful ones with nice people, and ones notorious for being elitist and drama-filled. (Drama is a big thing online, especially in groups like guilds)
One and the other are inevitable to occur sometimes. If a guild is well-managed and well-monitored, bad things wouldn't happen too often. Vice versa if a guild gets out of hand (which I don't see happening on Sylestia because a) not a gigantic playerbase to the point that a guild can have 200 members at one time, and b) everyone is quite nice and reasonable)
I know when I started playing MMOs, I had no idea how guilds worked. I wasn't sure if it was a good thing to join or not. It's sometimes fun. Sometimes, people like me don't know where to start: to ask for guild invites first, or wait for a guild to find me? But guild systems are staples in the MMO world. I'm not saying it's needed, and I do say it takes some level of responsibility to maintain (maybe not a lot but never know), but it has its pros and cons. c:

That. I've never had good experiences with guilds and stuff, and if they have an impact in any sort of gameplay it seems to really alter the game style for me, and always in a negative way. Usually because if something's designed for a guild then it's very unpleasant to deal with when not in a guild, essentially forcing anti-guild users into having to join a guild in order to complete this task, and if you're not that active things could go sour rather fast.
Flute: Awwwww, you know me so well. XD I think this is the second or third time you've supplied the words I couldn't come up with. XD
