Hello!
For the Week of love contest of creating a love pair, I saw that you had to have a pair of 1 male and 1 female of the same species.
I was thinking, why can't we have same-sex love pairs of pets too? We could add a rule to make them both look different just so people don't copy and paste the same design on two males/two females.
Not everyone is straight so why can't the pets be LGBTQ+ as well?
Thanks!

Edit: I appreciate all the support for this idea! I just wanted to say that I agree that the breeding aspect of it is not why people enter the contest. They do it for the design. Plus, there can be Ace pets!
Maybe there can be a separate LGBTQ+ contest for this because of the rules of the original Create A Pair.

The intent of the contest is for players to create a breeding pair. Two Males or two Females cannot breed. That is why the contest rules ask for one of each sex.

I know that the intent was for breeding pairs, but I think the reasoning for the suggestion has more to do with them being "love pairs." Most people do submit breeding pairs, but even with the current rules, there are still submissions where the pets clearly weren't designed with breeding in mind. Some people just want to ship a couple pets together, and it would be cool if that was extended to same-sex pairs.

^It would be super fun to be able to make gay pairs. As Cat said, I know the intent was breeding pairs, which 100% makes sense, but considering people already submit ones that (pretty clearly) aren't breeding pairs, it feels like it could just be some extra fun for the contest to have 2 males/females allowed. If someone wants a breeding pair they could still design it, but those who just want to make a cute sylesti couple could be free to pick gender-wise ^^

Yes, the intent is for the resulting pair to be a breeding pair, but then why isn't the name of the game 'Create a Breeding Pair'? Probably because there are a number of players that don't breed as part of their particular game play. They like filling their stables with pets that are pretty as-is, and have no intention of breeding them, whether for random fun or toward a particular goal. For them, creating this 'love pair' is just about making two pretty pets that could be made to sit in their stables and just be pretty. And that is a perfectly valid thing to do. So, that being the case, if the game is to design a 'love pair', not to design a 'breeding pair', then I see no reason that same-sex love pairs shouldn't be allowed. And that's coming from someone that absolutely submits two pets that are meant to jump start a breeding project XP

Allowing for people to submit male/male or female/female pairs would not inhibit anyone's ability to submit their own male/female pair if they wanted. A lot of people submit breeding pairs, but a lot of people also don't. Allowing people to submit same sex pairs of the same species doesn't inhibit anyone else's decision to not therefore I don't see why they should have to use a philter of gender swapping to have that :b
Do I think the vast majority of players submit matching pairs? Yes. Do I think they always plan to breed those matching pairs? No. I also think that some of the reason so many people submit matching pairs, although not explicitly stated in the rules, is because they see other players matching colors/traits and think they have to or that's how their pair is supposed to look.
I know when making my pair I triple checked the rules to see if it did at any point say I had to match anything other than sex because I saw so many exact matches in pairs that I thought it'd be weird or against the rules to have two luffs with different traits and colors.
I can't speak for everybody, but personally I think seeing people explicitly submit matching color and/or trait pairs influences what you or I might submit seeing that as the example.

Little side note, not a direct response to anyone but.
They're called a "love pair", love obviously isn't just confined to the traditional male/female any more. If we're specifically supposed to be making Sylestis that match so they can breed, then why not say breeding pair? The entire week of love event is centered around Valentine's is it not? Lots of people celebrate Valentine's it's not just about... reproducing or whatever. It's a celebration of love and there are more forms of love than just a male and a female like-liking each other that seems like the wrong message for the event to have.
With the current title of making a Love Pair, letting people submit m/m or f/f doesn't stop someone who does want a breeding pair from doing that. I just don't understand why is has to be confined to just m/f relationships then have it be defended with " well it's to make a breeding pair" well that seems wrong for a Valentine's event, and me submitting two males doesn't stop you from being potentially chosen because it's a raffle.
