Oasis // Lion Pride RP // Sign ups // OPEN TO EVERYONE!

"I'm proud of you dear."
Ayize shook her head in a daze, clearing away the voice. No. Impossible. She was gone, and gone forever. The mousy lioness shook the night chill away from her fur as she circled under an acacia tree, lifting her pooling green eyes to the stars. Why? What for?
No. No, it didn't matter now. No going back, no mourning, no grief. But always honor.
Ayize traced the dirt with her big clumsy paws. She was growing into them. But even if she was growing by the day, she was still, much, much too young to be alone. No mother. No pride.
It had always been Lungile's wish for her only daughter to return to her pride of birth, even if she would never have been able to go back herself. They had traveled great distances to find them, and as far as Lungile had said, they were almost there. But there had been an accident. And now Ayize was alone, alone in a large, scary world, clinging to the hope of finding her mother's lost pride.

General Rules
Cubs/romance is allowed, but please don't make it a primary focus. Keep it PG.
Don't injure another persons character without permission.
You can always, always have input, don't be shy if something is wrong or you have questions/suggestions.
Hate the character, not the player. Let's be honest, some characters can become annoying, especially if that's purposely the personality of the character!
Have FUN my dudes.

Posting
Sometimes, it can be a bit difficult to remember who plays who, especially when you're just reading through. It can be tedious to guess all the time, especially if they have multiple characters. For the sake of this please format as such (it is much appreciated!):

Name / F, M, or N / Rank / Mentions: other character or None (anyone mentioned in the post except for your own character)

Ex: Ayize / F / Trainee / Mentions: Zobona
Busa / M / Subordinate / Mentions: None

Welcome! This is a reference for lifestyles and rules.

The Camp
The Treeline: A big circle of trees that surrounds the camp. A few small bushes close off some parts, but its not a secure wall.
Sunstones: A large pile of sandy boulders in camp, perfect for climbing and sunning. Usually the older lions get their pick of the biggest ones, and cubs can often be found playing at the bottom. The tallest one overlooks the entire camp, and the view extends over the treeline and towards the rise, where the hunting grounds are. The Royals will often use this for big announcements, but not always.
Great Den: The large cavern that makes part of the Treeline. All lions, no matter age or rank, sleep together in here. Lions may choose to sleep wherever they wish, generally with friends or close family, and cubs with their mothers. One section of the cave dips back, where the Healers keep their stores and Lorekeepers dedicate their time to their work.
Drinking Pool: A small, shimmering pool of water held in a dip of a stone. This is inside the camp, opposite the Great Den and near Sunstones. Occasionally it dries up during a drought or heatwave and can be refilled during the next rain, or refilled from the watering hole.
Nursery: A small area of the Great Den near the Medicine and Lorekeepers Caves sectioned off with large logs and tree branches. The grass mats here are usually more bowl-shaped and cozier, and often lined with feathers. The cubs like to climb on the branches, and pull feathers out of the nests to play.
Medicine and Lorekeepers Caves: A section of the Great Den that dips back into the rock walls. This is where the Healers and Lorekeepers keep their supplies and perform their duties seperate from the pride.
Prey-heap: When lionesses have particularly successful hunts, this is where they keep it until feeding time. The pride is never wasteful with their kills, and stores bones in the lorekeepers' cave for the Lunar Fasting. The pride eats twice a day - once at morning and once at night, together. The royal family gets first pick of prey, and after the senior subordinates. Next are broodmothers and cubs, subordinates, healers, lorekeepers, and lastly trainees. When debates arise within rank as to who gets to choose first, the elder party always wins unless they allow others to go before them. Most often there is not much prey left for the lower members of the pride, and they are left to scrounge among the scraps and bones.

Hunting Grounds
Meadow: Herds of zebra, antelope, bongos, and wildebeest come here to graze, among other small game and birds. Lionesses hunt here most often, using the tall savannah grasses to cover themselves. Young trainees need to be weary, as a crackle of hyenas has been known to frequently roam
Watering Hole: A small, lush lake stands at one end of the meadow, shaded by trees. Animals from all walks of life come to drink at the waters edge and rest from the sun - it is forbidden to hunt here.
Baobab Thicket: At the end of the meadow opposite the watering hole is a dense area of weeds, bushes, and thorny cacti. Several small paths cut through, straight to the large Baobab tree in the middle of it, often times overgrown with new foliage. This is not usually an area for play or hunting, rather a good place to find materials for grass mats. It is also a spiritual place. Trainees are brought here by a close mentor, usually someone they trained often with or shares a close bond. This ceremony is never discussed among the pride, and trainees are not allowed to know the goings-on here until it is their turn. Here the mentor will sit at the edge of the thicket and allow the trainee to carve a new path to the Baobab tree, without any aid. This task often takes all night, since they must clear away all plants, roots, and thorns from the path. If they cannot complete the task by dawn, they are not allowed to move up in the rankings and must try again at another time. If the task is completed to the mentors satisfaction, the trainee climbs the tree to watch the sun rise, and is promoted to Subordinate rank.

Spiritual Practices

Afterlife: The equivalent to an afterlife is the Great Plains, where lions from prides far and wide will live together in peace and prosperity after they have served their time. These spirits are called Hunters of the Great Plains, or simply Hunters. Any lion may seek spiritual insight if they wish, but stronger connections with spirits are few and far between. Usually if such a gift is known about early on in a lion's life, they are trained to become a Lorekeeper.
The Lunar Fasting: The Lunar Fasting is a period of fasting each month for five days after the full moon. In this time they are allowed to chew bones or plants, but hunting prey and meat are prohibited. Used as a table marker for time, and also a way to appease the Great Hunters. Lorekeepers are tasked with keeping track of the days in relation to this.

Pride Roles
Royal Blood: The monarchy can be through inheritance or power. The Heir is usually the oldest cub of the family unless dictated otherwise. If the family has no cubs, it will pass to the next oldest sibling of the inherited monarch and so on. If there are no other living relatives, the heir is chosen by the monarch and may be challenged or declined. Kings and Queens can be overthrown by force, in which case the title passes on to the next family. The king and queen must be mates, although there does not have to be both - there may be just a king, just a queen, or multiple of either. Rulers may step down or be challenged at any time. The monarch may choose to make some decisions based on vote, but ultimately their word is law.
Healers: These lions are exactly what they sound like. They are subordinates who were trained in medicine. While all lions have a basic medicinal knowledge for emergency, these lions are of the best, and know practices much more advanced. Once they are taken in as a healer, they are sworn to their craft, unable to mate. They are, along with the heir and lorekeepers, at the right paw of royalty.
Lorekeepers: Lions of this rank are a bit different than subordinates and healers, though they still may occasionally have regular subordinate duties, or double as healers. These lions are tasked with keeping track of the days, and learning the vast history of the prides. Lorekeepers also know when it is time for the Lunar Fasting.
Subordinates: The backbone and majority of the pride, mostly consisting of lionesses, but male lions are not uncommon. Lionesses have duties such as hunting and providing food, while males patrol borders and report any strange findings, and all lions have a basic medicinal knowledge. Though, once in a while these roles can be swapped. Subordinates also make grass mats for sleeping, collectively teach trainees, and continue honing their individual skills throughout their lifetime. Subordinates never retire - however seniors are well-regarded and get better picks of prey.
Training: Trainees do not have mentors! They are trained collectively as a pride, so they are given the opportunity to learn a variety of skills. Some may choose not to learn certain skills. This is the time when they start to integrate into the pride and learn to pull their weight. Skills may include hunting, tracking, fighting, running, swimming, sensing, listening, smell, carving (bones and sticks), etc. There is no limit to what a lion can choose to learn, but focusing on their assets is typical. All lions will learn basic medicine (wound dressing, shock, colds, etc), we can use Warrior based solutions if its easier. Other medicine such as broken bones, infections, etc will be done by lions who chose to continue in this skill.

Outside the Pride
Lions may choose to leave the pride with the approval of the king and queen. They may also be banned or exiled if felt necessary by vote.

I am welcome to suggestions on morals/spiritual practices! You can always find them here and on top of the main rp thread

Interest ping, let me know if you want to add your lions back, otherwise you can just ignore this.

You can just say so, you won't need to reregister.
