"Zuci!" My mother called. Come eat this beetle I caught for you!"
Zuci hated beetles. They were so shiny and weird it was like they were practically screaming I'm prettier than you. EAT ME! HEE HEE! and so on. They always tried to bite Zuci in the nose. Luckily, Zuci mostly preferred to live in the water. He had a big pond with-
"ZUCIKHATA! EAT. THIS BEATLE!" His mother bellowed. He really wanted to say, No, YOU eat the beatle but he knew that would make her put him on pond restriction for at least a week. He treaded over until he was near his mom - and the beetle. He forced his mouth open and tried not to wince when he ate it. It was so... crunchy. "BLECH! Mommy! Eeeew, yuck!" He put on a face that humans made when they ate lemons. "Mommy no more me full" His mother looked at him with stern eyes, "Wait until your father gets here. THEN, we'll discuss your 'problems'"
He thought about this for a moment, "But mommy! Problem now! Solve now!" He beckoned.
"NO. Zucikhata. I have to GO! BYE!" She whirled around before Zuci could see her facial expression. He splashed into the water with silence and waited for his mom to apologize and comfort him and hug him. He imagined the scene in his head. "I'm so sorry, my baby! I never meant what I said, I was RUDE!" and then she would hug him, "Good riddance! When will I learn to be NICE?"
But all night, she didn't come. "Mommy? Where you?" He called softly, "Mommy!" Come here and apologize! "I'm sorry for what said! I eat beetle! YUMMMM, beetle nice!"
No one answered. His father didn't come either.
His parents had abandoned him.

Alright, so I alone. In mist. In dark. That show GOOD sign of kidyapping! Zucikhata thought. He always loved his friend's stories and how funny and scary they were. It was like living in a different world. He always dreamed about living in a different world. It would be like living in space. Unknown areas. Mysterious secrets. How fun would that be? VERY fun. That's the answer. Why would any Sylesti PASS on that idea? Anyways. That wasn't the point. The point was that his parents abandoned him. Why would they? They were not poor. Plus, his parents loved him. They had to! He was their child. On the downside, they weren't even there for him when he hatched. They couldn't possibly abandon him this early! He was only three days old! Although he remembered his parents say something before he hatched, he was in an egg but he could still hear. "We have to run soon. They'll find us if we don't hide"
"But why would we leave Zucikhata?"
"You named them Zucikhata?! I hate that name! EW!"
"Sorry! That's his name now"
"So when will Shadowslayer find us?"
"When 'Zuci' comes to the world"

Maybe mommy, daddy is here also we don't know that! Zuci suggested to himself, [Mommy daddy good Sylesti, no bad.
Sadly, Zuci was doubting that. "MoMmY! DaDdY! WhErE yOu?!" He bellowed. Only the sound of the night answered. Soon after, another answer appeared, "Khata?" Someone asked softly. But Zuci knew that voice from miles away. "Nightblade? What you here with?" Zuci asked.
"You," She answered. "Where are your parents?"
"Gone, go way hour go."
"WHAT?" She blurted, "Why? How? When? Where?"
"Why? I no sure. "How? What you mean how? When? Hour go. Where? Me not sure" Zuci answered.
"Oh, ok." She said, trying to conceal her facial expression of complete terror and dread.
"Why sad? They come 'ventually" Zuci said in a comforting way.
"No. Your parents aren't coming back," Nightblade said emotionally and slowly, wiping away her tears with her rubbery webbed front-feet.
"Then where they!?" Zuci demanded.
"Dead," Nightblade said, "Dead because of the Sylesti-Hunters"
Zucikhata thought about this for a moment. 'Dead' echoed in his empty void of a brain. Why did it have to be his parents? Why did his parents have to die--?
"Who they!" Zuci questioned. "Must be mean."
"They are a group of Vulnyxes that kill a lot of Sylesti for prey. Including their own tribe. They ate... your mother and father!" She sobbed. "They ate all of your family - excluding you"
