What are trait points and what do they do?

trait points don't 'do' anything, as such, it's more a descriptor of sylesti genetics
A single trait point is a single piece of trait genetics, so to speak. Each non-N letter in a pet's genetics is one TP (though you can only see the carried trait info if the pet is tested, but they are there regardless.)
A pet with One Carried trait and no Visible traits has One trait point.
A pet with One Visible trait (regardless of if it has a Hidden or not) and no Carried traits has Two trait points.
12tp = 6 vis traits
An Enhanced Generator Essence lets you use 4tp to make a pet in the generator, which could be 4 carries, or 1 vis+2 carries, or 2vis
