In the shadowed realm that lurked beyond human understanding, a demon lord reigns supreme, his name whispered only in terror among those who dwell in the mortal world. Evolon, the master of this desolate domain, feeds on the dread he sows, a ruler who has woven fear so deep into the hearts of humankind that every year they bend to his will in a desperate bid for his mercy. Driven by superstition and helplessness, they perform a ritual sacrifice, offering up one of their own as a tribute to appease the dark sovereign and prevent his wrath from spilling into their lands.

Priests led a young girl by the name of Halle to the ancient stone altar deep in the forest where the veil between worlds appeared to be the thinnest this time of year. There, the people chanted in hushed voices, invoking Evolons name and begging for his mercy as they prepared to send the chosen one to his realm. As they continued to chant, a portal opened. It wasn't a nice, quiet opening, either. The ground shook and nearby trees began to bend inward, the sound of creaking wood quickly becoming breaking wood as branches snapped off, separating from the trees. Leaves rustled almost frantically despite the lack of any kind of breeze, and then...there it was. An eerie, shimmering rift in the fabric of reality--through which the sacrificed soul had to walk. The air around them quickly grew dense with the scent of ash and the sound of distant, inhuman whispers. The group waited for Halle to step through the portal, to seal the pact for another year, to leave the villagers to wait in dread for when Evolon's hunger would call again.

The portal displayed the realm beyond. It was unlike anything seen by human eyes. It was a world forged from nightmares and twisted by Evolons power. The skies were perpetually draped in a stormy darkness, painted in deep shades of violet and charcoal, streaked occasionally by jagged flashes of lightning that illuminated the vast, oppressive landscape. Towers of black stone clawed up from the ground like the talons of some ancient beast.

The ground was a cracked, barren expanse, littered with remnants of forgotten bones and charred vegetation. Rivers of molten fire snaked through the terrain, casting an eerie glow that danced over the uneven rocks and broken cliffs. Occasionally, shadows slinked through the mist. Some of them were twisted, hulking creatures with eyes that gleamed in the darkness, unseen but always watching, always waiting. Others were less obvious.

In the distance, Evolons fortress loomed, an ominous citadel with walls forged of onyx and obsidian, spires piercing the sky like sharpened blades. It radiated a dark, oppressive energy, its windows glowing faintly with an eerie, sickly green light. The green was a sharp contrast to the red and black that seemed to cling to every other surface. Souls lost to the realm echoed through the air as whispers, their voices trapped, forever mingling with the wind, filling the world with a ceaseless murmur of fear and despair. Here, in this forsaken place, every shadow seemed alive.

"Go forth," the lead priest murmured, his voice somber yet steady. "Know that your courage is seen and that you carry the hopes of your people with you. Through this offering, you spare us another year from his wrath, and your spirit joins those who came before you, brave and pure in purpose." But, he didn't really mean much of what he said.

Halle slaps the face of the priest. "Do you really think this is the only way to ask Evolon for mercy? Sacrificing living beings? You know what, I am going to prove to you all this is not the only way!"

She transforms into a falcon and flies into the portal, wanting to persuade Evolon to have mercy upon humanity.

(You're totally good!)

The head priest staggered back, his cheek red where Halles slap had landed. The other priests--clutching their prayer beads and holy charms--gasped as she spoke, her words cutting through the silence like a blade. None dared respond, paralyzed by the audacity of her challenge to the dark order they had upheld for generations.

The black citadel loomed in the distance, its towers sharp and menacing, rising from the cracked earth.

The portal closed behind her, sealing her fate.

After the portal closed, a tense silence fell over the gathering. The lead priest stood motionless, his fingers still brushing his reddened cheek, his gaze fixed on the spot where Halle had disappeared. The others, bewildered and shaken, exchanged glances before one of them spoke, her voice barely a whisper.

"Shes as good as gone," she murmured, clutching her prayer beads with a trembling hand. "No one has ever returned from that realm, not without his permission."

The lead priest tightened his jaw, lowering his gaze to the ground, his voice carrying a mixture of frustration and regret. In her defiance, she may only anger him further. What hope does she have, challenging a being of such darkness?

And with that, they turned and left, hoping that Evolon would accept Halle as a sacrifice, not coming back to demand another one.
