the warden's compendium on space time conundrums
an SCP x Undertale Crossover

a very dramatic investigation of what it means to be human, conducted by one Head Researcher Warren over the subjects Slash and Riptide, who've found themselves ripped from their home world of Undertale and kidnapped by a very strange organization. now if they could just figure out why people won't stop referring to them as SCPs and escape, they'd be all set to return home, cry a few tears of thanks, and have a laugh with their friends.

spoiler warning: Warren won't let that happen. at least, not for a while...

Got a fun title going, though I can sub out the space time conundrums part if you have a better word for describing Undertale folks.

Don't know if SCP uses Warden as a title, but it's a play on my character's name, Warren, and it describes his job as a manager-adjacent employee in charge of containment and researcher pretty well, so I like it and I'm using it haha.

that title is perfect

Do you wanna go ahead and start? You can just have someone drag my little fairy boy into a cell/testing room :D

Also, little description: Slash is quite short, about 4'7. His skin is a pastel orange, and he's got short, fluffy off-white hair. He has beetle-like wings that are usually folded up flat against his back, and it's unclear if he can fly with them, since he just doesn't. His nails are a bit sharp, enough to draw blood when he scratches someone if he wants to. Other than that he's pretty much just humanoid :)

The sky glows a jagged, bleeding orange as hazy orange pours out of a hole in the sky in slow, sagging drips. The portal--because there's no other word to describe it--hovers with a palpable sense of threat, punctuated by the scent of ozone and the crackle of electricity. A Nine-Tailed Fox candidate lays convulsing on the floor, having been caught too close to the tear between worlds, and the other members of the regiment treat the new Anomaly all the harsher for it.
Arms bent behind his back, two of them march the threat across hot Arizona sands, the Anomaly's skin glistening the same pastel-orange as the paranormal light behind them.

"Don't let your guard down," a deep voice commands from their earbuds, tinged with a faint Louisiana accent. "Use tranquilizers and bullets at your leisure if the situation gets out of hand and the Anomaly shows any sign of breaking loose. I don't want to see any causalities today."

The attempted flailing and kicking, biting and scratching doesn't warrant that response, not yet. There's been SCPs that have reacted negatively to stimulus before, and there's no need to escalate the situation when all signs are pointing towards containment. No, armor and a willingness to wake up with bruises from the struggles of the Anomaly will have to do.

Boots click across concrete as the unit marches into the compound, weapons still trained and hands still pinning arms and wings as a man attempts to thrusts a blindfold over the Anomaly's eyes. Who knows if it'll be beneficial or if the entity will have another method of sensing, but when fighting the paranormal, it never hurts to fight for as many advantages as you can get.

"Anomaly coming your way," the leader states.
The microphone catches a part of dry lips, and the same voice returns through the tinny of the gear. "Containment cell 93 is open."

After that, their march continues strong regardless of the Anomaly's struggles and without further commentary, eventually depositing them in a secure cell upon which the Foxes begin a hasty retreat.

"Thank you for your work, everyone," a researcher states, bright lights glinting off of black hair. "Take care of yourselves; I'll take it from here." His name tag reads Dr. Warren, Head Researcher of the SCP Foundation.
He steps forward, a flutter of a white lab coat, and taps a long finger against a console containing a row of buttons, most black and two red.

"SCP-5482. This is your assigned room. I will lay down several rules, and you may make inquiries. Am I clear?" Clear, confident, and commanding, Warren's voice alone makes it clear that he is the man in charge. It isn't hostile, not yet, but it establishes that he is the one leading their relationship, for all the abilities the other may have.

(I'm not sure if the USA is an accurate setting, so I can edit this as needed if we want to make any changes to the setting / other descriptions like Slash's actual number. Not sure if Head Researcher title is entirely accurate either, but I think the shoe fits for now. :D

Also, whew that ended up longer than I was expecting!)

(Woah I was not expecting a bestseller-worthy book as a first turn O.O You've set the bar quite high my friend- USA is a fine setting! It is a haywire portal after all so it's not like anyone's deciding where it opens up :) any random number is fine, and it'd be way too much effort to find one that isn't already taken, so let's go with 5482!)

Slash struggles with all his might for every last moment, thrashing head and limbs about in a wild and chaotic manner. He yells out nearly constantly, sometimes as little as "LET GO OF ME!" sometimes as much as detailed, horrific threats.

But as time goes on, he grows tired, slowing his movements and quieting him for need to breathe. This makes it all the easier to contain him, and as he loses hope of escaping, he begins to cry. Tears stream down his narrow cheeks uncontrollably.

The moment he's thrown into the cell, he scrambles toward the doorway after the Foxes, only to be met with a firmly shut door. He bangs on it with both fists, doubtlessly bruising them. He cries out with new panic, "Let me out of here!! You don't know what I am I'll- I'll kill you ALL! Let me go right now or I'll track down everyone each one of you loves and torture them until they-!"

The moment Warren speaks, Slash cuts off mid-threat. He rips off the blindfold, and his head flips around to face the researcher. "You. You open this door right now! What the- I'm not living here! And my name isn't essypa... whatever you said!! You got the wrong guy. I dunno where I am but I DEMAND you take me back home RIGHT NOW." His voice trembles and breaks occasionally from his tears. But nonetheless, he glares daggers into Warren's eyes. It's quite safe to say that he is more than hostile.

Brown eyes turn cold and flinty as threats flow from the Anomaly's lips like a compulsion. For all that the monster weeps, panics, and threatens, there's a nonexistent chance of it being allowed to run rampart in human society. Warren will not allow it. His pen moves in clipped motions across sheets of paper laying on his clipboard to note that SCP-5482 leans towards hostility instead of docility.
Still, he remains silent, eyes flickering towards the man standing beside him, the captain of the regiment.

The man leans in towards the glass, fixes the Anomaly with a provoking gaze, and drawls, "Are those threats all you got? Cause I've heard 'em all before, multiple times. Maybe you should try something more creative if you wanna get your point across, kid."

Warren snaps into action, face changing from picture-perfect attentiveness to reprimanding with the raise of a single neat eyebrow.
"You're free to follow your team," he states, voice cool even as he mentally commends his colleague for his quick understanding. His acting too, as the other's face flickers with a flash of rage before he pivots on his heel and strides away.

The researcher turns back dismissively. "I apologize for my colleague's behavior," he says, doing his best to sell the deal with a small frown. "However, I will not apologize for the emotions that he's feeling nor will be able to acquiesce to your requests. When you appeared, you killed a man." An absolute lie but guilt is a formidable weapon, and he heard the Nine-Tail Fox candidate over the microphones. "That man was checking on your wellbeing, and now his family will have to receive the news that he's not coming home".
He mimics his move before, a single eyebrow. "Should I tell them that his murderer is on the loose, as well? Should I tell anyone else you hurt that it was an honest mistake, that you sounded sorry? I can't trust you right now, and I see no reason that I should."

(Tell me if the guilt trip is too much. I have other ideas, but I feel like a lot of early SCP handling is breaking down their mental state when possible and evaluating danger levels. Still, the other ideas are ready as back-up!

Also, thank you! ;0; I love how you portray Slash's emotions, so I may or may not be trying to provoke more of them haha. Oh no, I sound evil.)

(Hehe at this point evil is synonymous with writer, it's all good with me, but I can't promise it'll work :) Slash is more than traumatized and insane enough to not really feel guilt anymore <3)

Slash only turns his glare to the captain. "Well-!" But, he quickly realizes he doesn't actually have a response. He isn't used to people being used to his sort of behavior. So he defaults to good old trusty, "Shut up!!"

When Warren sends the captain away, he huffs and nods, as if in approval. "Good. You should be sorry. I dunno who else is making my kinda threats, but either they're bluffing or have good reason." Surprisingly, he closes his mouth to listen to Warren while he speaks. Meanwhile, he wipes some of his tears away, then crosses his arms. When Warren finishes, he grins widely.

"Ohhhhh noooo!" He puts the back of his hand on his forehead in mock-horror. "I killed a guy and his family is saaaaad?? That's so crazy and definitely not what I was going for!!" He scoffs and drops the act. Instead, he stares at Warren with a sinister sneer. "I thought I didn't do enough for him to die. I'm glad I was wrong. If what he did is what you call 'checking on wellbeing,' I'm sorry for everyone you ever 'check on.' You can tell people whatever you want! But you'll be boldface lying if you try to say I'm sorry!"

The boy slowly steps closer to the glass, still with a cutting grin on his face. He doesn't seem to be crying nearly as much anymore, if at all. It's only hard to tell because his eyes are still puffy, and there are still remnant tears on his cheeks. "Listen fancy science guy... I've killed hundreds before," it's an exaggeration, but he doesn't care much about being accurate. "I'm not afraid to kill some more. There's only one person ALIVE I'd spare even if she irritated me, and I guarantee you don't know her. You'd have to be a special kinda stupid to trust me."

He lays his hands on the glass, as close to Warren as he can possibly be. "I'm just warning you that I'll slaughter every person in this building that stands in my way of getting back home. What you do with that info, well, that's up to you. I think there's a clear smart and stupid option. Which are you, hmmm?"

(Haha he may or may not use feigning confidence as a coping mechanism (he absolutely does) <3 and just for eternal future reference: There's no need to ask if anything is too much or if I'm uncomfortable! If something like that comes up, I'll tell you right away :) If I don't say anything, you can assume it's all good.)

(Thanks for telling me! Feel free to do the same, I'll tell you if anything uncomfortable comes up. In the mean time, Slash's coping mechanism is working pretty well for him! Or not well, because Warren believes his bluff but uh-)

Slash speaks, and Warren sees red. His knuckles are white from their grip around his clipboard and pen, his nostrils flared and shoulders stiff. For several moments, he can't find his voice and when he does speak, its with danger dripping from careful, controlled words.
"You would kill a man for irritating you?" he repeats, soft and slow, more for himself than the Anomaly in front of him.
"I think it's best that you never see daylight again then, SCP-5482." The serial tag rolls of his tongue like a weapon before he turns the other's words against it. "And I think that all the wise men would agree that it'd be foolish to let you free, given that you seem keen on painting the walls red."

He takes a deep breath here, though it's hard to tell if it soothes his anger or not. Warren's next words contain detached curiosity instead of rolling fury, but they have the potential to break bone, intentional or not.
"Though," the word hangs in the air like a gunshot before the bite of a bullet, "I'm not quite sure why you think that'll get you any closer to your home. We certainly weren't the ones who created the portal."

His musings was very much intentional. Out of everything the researcher has seen -- out of Anomalies that rip, tear, and maul out of instinct, out of Anomalies that hunt for the sport -- those that explain wanton violence by pinning it on the victims are those that he hates most.

They make Warren feel like an Anomaly himself, like a thunderstorm carefully folded into a human body with lightning crackling through his veins and static dancing across his skin, his flesh, his bones and sinew. They make him feel he'll shatter at the slightest touch, until he's something even the king's horses and men wouldn't dare to dream of fixing.

(You say that like it's a bluff :) also, I haven't asked, how do you feel about language? Slash is probably going to end up cussing with how mad Warren makes him, but I can avoid or censor that if you want!)

"Absolutely," he answers without a beat of hesitation. "Or a woman, or a child." He leans back away from the glass, taking a moment to look around the cell as he breathes deeply. "You can sure try that. I'll make sure your death is the most painful then. But at LEAST stop calling me that. My name is Slash. It rolls off the tongue a lot easier than that mess you're trying to name me."

He just plops down right there on the floor to sit. "Hate to break it to you, but the only choice you've got is how many bodies I've gotta go through to get back home. If you wanna doom your fellow science people, be my guest!" He rolls his eyes at the mention of the portal. "I bet I know who did it. And if I'm right I'm gonna snap each of his tattooed paint-splattered mistakenly-created unwanted bones until the floor's stained black from his ink-that-pretends-to-be-blood. Either way I'm sure I can get back through."

Slash closes his eyes for a moment. He can't help but wonder what Blade could be doing. As his only companion, surely she's freaking out by now. He wonders if she'll even find the portal, and who might end up collateral damage as she tries to find him. Blade isn't nearly as chaotic and careless with life as Slash is, of course, but she is still quite deadly when she's angry. Especially when it concerns Slash's safety.

(Also btw he thinks Ink made the portal :) it was too obscure to mention in my Undertale 101 message, but Ink's blood is actually black ink! And most of his bones are tattooed with pretty swirls, with one permanent black paint splatter on his face.)

(Language is fine, whether you want to use curses or more graphic threats lol. Also, I'm reeling, I thought Slash was nice and innocent, and now you're telling me he's a mass murderer ahhhhh-)

In and out. In and out. Deep breaths in and out.

Warren's lips split in a savage barring of teeth, white gleaming in a mocking semblance of a smile as he leans in.
"If you escape, you're welcome to try, SCP-5482." He meets the other's eyes, brows raised in an obvious taunt, dark pupils turned down to observe the other from a good head or two of height. "You're a bit too small to do anything other than that." Cynical, an impartial observation, a statement of fact.
He lets his challenge hang in the air, observing the SCP's reaction with lazy, half-lidded eyes.

After several seconds of silence, Warren continues, "Room 12. I trust that you don't need me to explain further? Give you the door code? Leave myself tied and trussed?" Each offer in made in a slow drawl and punctuated by the rap of his fingers against the clipboard.

The scientist would never hope for a breach, but, oh, he hopes the SCP takes the bait. The storm croons its agreement at the thought, a maelstrom of thunder and fury that leaves the edges of his vision blurry.
His breath catches in his too-dry throat as it rattles out, uneven and shaky.
