Yeah, no kidding. By noon, they'd passed through Oklahoma and were heading across the Texas panhandle. It was just absolute flatness here, sweeping, empty expanses of burnt-looking grass, stretching out for miles to the unbroken line of the horizon. The sky soared above them, looking about ten times larger than usual, and grain elevators peppered the landscape. Every dusty little town seemed to have one, though often there wasn't a single person in sight.

Vex soon woke from what sleep he did get and sat right up again, rubbing one eye as the other looked around a bit. He lifted his glasses from his lap, because I don't know what i had him do with them before, and put them back on.

She pulled into a gas station with a mini-mart. "What kind of sandwich do you want?" She didn't really have to ask anymore, but she figured why not.

He nodded, giving a small smile. He felt an odd feeling at the fact that she'd grown to know what he likes. He tried to shove the feeling away, not sure what it was exactly.

There was a payphone to the side of the parking lot. They couldn't track a payphone, could they? Even if they couldn't, maybe they had tapped Vexin's parent's cell phones...

He didn't really have much interest in talking to his mother or father, he knew they probably didn't care that he was gone. They had stopped caring about a lot after that sob filled day at the hospital, when he'd last hugged his brother and asked why he was saying good bye.
