Shadowclaw turned and padded onward, toward Twolegplace. He had slowed slightly, though. His muscles were almost imperceptibly bunched, as he was expecting the she-cat to pounce on him. He would be surprised if she didn't.
(Surprise him. It'll throw him off ballance. Besides, he might have taken a liking to Nightcloud, if only because of her boldness. He would normally have threatened another cat with a promise to leave them permanently maimed for getting in his way.)

(I figured. Don't worry, Nightcloud likes him too-if not only for the reason he's not pathetically focused on following the rules. But it may be more than that.)

I was intrigued by the nerve of this cat, but he'd be expecting me to pounce. I wasn't going to be so outright.
"Have it your way," I replied testily, fading into the forest. I would follow him for a time until I knew which twoleg place he was headed towards. Then I could intercept him and pounce. He'd still pay for his remarks that way.
