She flew to her den which was perched on top of a sand dune over looking the town

Where is he? Shift hears her thoughts somewhere northeast, and couldnt resist peeking out of his room a teeny bit to see where she is

She scanned the city, her curious eyes darted to every little hint of movement. *that dragon* she thought *I never got his name* she then had a sudden flash back to when her father beat her and worked her like a slave. She shivered as tears came to her eyes when she heard her mothers furious roars echoing in her mind. She shook her head trying to erase it from memory. She gave up and cried, her talons over her face.

Her flashbacks kept coming in a hurricane of sorrow. She tried to stop them, but she had no control. She slid down the side wall of her house and curled up in a ball, sobbing. She felt weak, and useless

Shift suddenly saw an image from that sandwing's mind. it was her when she was little, with her father beating her and her mother roaring at her. He closed his eyes and shuddered. when he opened them again, shift saw her crying, her talons over her face. I should go help her, he thought, or at least reassure her. He hesitated for a bit, then looking over his shoulder, ripped the fabric a little and peeled it open, stepping out then taking off towards the sandwing

Her thoughts came again, this time so heavy with sorrow that he nearly jerked out of the sky

She held back more tears and stood up, her eyes clouded with her past and her talons wrapped around the necklace her one and only friend gave to her before he died. "I have to be strong" she whispered to h herself. She looked up at the moon, she then sighed and wrapped herself in her wings, staring at the moon.

Shift hears her thoughts again, this time about her only friend, who had died before giving her a necklace. i guess she is kinda like me, no friends at all, maybe because we're different? He remembered the silver star like scales under her wings. Landing quietly a bit far away from her, he took a few steps, then mustered enough courage to say: "Um, hi?"

She turned around. Her violet eyes turned from sad to surprised. "Oh, its you, the dragon who protected that dragonet." She forced her frown to a smile "I never got your name, im Sandstorm" she held out her talon. Her necklace swung from her neck.

Shift took her talon and shook it. "Im Shift." He smiled as well. "I wanted to thank you for intervening, cause it might have ended into a fight, and i dont want Cactus seeing that much violence and such a small age. Plus, they probably have the better advantage and all, with that poisonous tail." He sighed, glancing at his tail
