Last question I promise! Well maybe last...
Is there a way I could play an elf with pointy ears? And possibly he not be connected with the school right off? Maybe they find him in the woods or something?

Yeah sure. The elves have registry pendants, though. They track the movement and light-leaping (process similar to teleportation) of the wearer. His should be gone.
Also, is he a member of the Black Swan (The Black Swan are a group of elves, dwarves, and gnomes. They are the ones who created Sophie Foster, an elf with unusual powers and multiple talents)? Sophie and the Black Swan will be training the students.
If not, he can just be a random elf who happens to find them and must stay with the Black Swan to assure the Council (who hates the Black Swan) won't find out.

I was thinking maybe a random elf that has no connection to the Black Swan. Kinda like maybe he was in a sort of dormant sleep until now due to some magic spell used on him....
But no I didn't plan on him having a connection to the black swan.

Okay. He can't be in dormant sleep, it's not possible (unless his mind was broken, meaning it was destroyed by extreme grief- but then he wouldn't be able to 'awaken'). So maybe just a really old elf?
