The original el chupacabra came from a lady named Madelyn. She had seen a movie called "Species", right before her sighting. She had even stated it had very similar characteristics, spiny back and the long claws. 1995 in Puerto Rico was the first confirmed siting (made my Madelyn). After this they became more and more common sightings, while it mostly popped up in 2000 in Latin America+Florida. (sightings before that are most likely El Vampiro de Moca or mosquito-man, and the grunch/black grunch from New Orleans)[all could be the same thing, different sightings]
It then faded into being a dog like creature.
But as for the blood sucking, I have watched a lot of videos saying bats are the cause for the blood loss. Bats can fly in groups, and with the warmer temperatures, tropical bats could be to blame.
It is also known the wild dogs will bite victims on the neck and leave them to bleed out. <--- A sighting of an el chupacabra that was seen 'sucking' blood, was shot and sent in for a DNA check. It ended up being a coyote too :/

Thank you. I liked your tailypo. What did you do it on? It kinda looked like the paint program to me, but i'm probably mistaken.

@Carrotbae
However, blood-sucking bats do not kill the animals that they feed from by draining them completely of blood. They also don't bit on the throat.
Livestock that have been killed like the chupacabra supposedly does don't have much blood on themselves, either. Therefore, this could not be explained by dogs letting prey bleed out. Even if it was possible, the bite is much too clean to be a dog's.
I haven't heard of the coyote incidence, but from what you've said, I'm not sure that the creature displayed the same evidence that is shown on other livestock.
As for this widespread folie-a-deux of sorts, however inappropriately I just used that term, it is entirely possible for the majority of witnesses, if not all of them. I'd need to do some research about their credibility. However, there are some aspects of this that are documented so well that they're nearly impossible to debase.
If you've got anything else, though, to prove that I'm absolutely wrong, I'll be glad to hear it.

Madelyn was the first witness right? Her seeing the movie a couple weeks before, making a siting, and then sharing it could have contributed to the wide spread "El Chupacabra". Isn't it weird that the legend spawned /almost/ immediately after that move was released?
Another thing I would like to mention; to keep the species thriving for this long, there would be a couple hundred to a couple thousand. Each thing standing 4-6 feet and even weighing a 100 pounds, the would be common in the small Puerto Rico island. Plus Puerto Rico is pretty populated, so sightings would be common.
That would mean a lot of blood would have to be fed to them. If stories say that they saw 1-3 El Chupacabras feeding on blood, and all those goats, chickens and other live stock, that would be a significant number of carcasses. Where are all those carcasses. Let's say there are 100 El Chupacabras. With that body mass we'll say they eat 5-10 livestock animals a week to keep them quenched from blood. That would be 500-1000 dead livestock animals in a /week/. That's a lot of animals disappearing, with not a lot of reports if El Chupacabras were doing that.
"Another snag in the chupacabra theory is that true vampires have to deal with iron toxicity. Blood contains iron, an essential component of cellular energy production. Too much iron, however, can be poisonous. This is one of the reasons humans cant drink blood. In high doses, iron can actually kill. Animals that have evolved to suck blood have anatomical properties that allow them to manage increases in iron intake. These are physical mechanisms that are not present in dogs, coyotes and raccoons.
Whatever animal that has been tentatively identified as a chupacabra, if you really think it is, there are ways to test this, Radford said. Take a sample of its saliva. See if it has anticoagulant properties. If it doesnt, then it cannot, by definition, be the dreaded vampiric goat sucker. " (Source: http://www.ibtimes.com/chupacabra-real-why-legend-goat-sucker-endures-what-science-says-about-it-1569567, Paragraph 10 and 11)
I would be convinced if a DNA swab of saliva was taken from a "Blood Drained Animal" and had proof that the animal could drink the blood. So why aren't there tests being done with all of them victimized animals?
Also, I would be glad to hear your proof on El Chupacabra being real :)
