Your paws get damp but you avoid getting them really wet. The water is cold and taste cleans, no mud seems to be in it surprisingly.
Aspen smiled in a satisfied manner as he finished up his drink. It was cold and refreshing, a rare treat in a marshy area. He trotted downstream along the bank of the river, searching for a good area to set up a camp.

The ground is mushy under paw and trees start to appear over head. As you walk along the bank of the river you notice the ground on the other side seems firmer.

Aspen paused debating. The other side seemed the better prospect. He cautiously dipped a paw in the water, if the current seemed too swift he would not cross, if the current seemed calm enough he would try to swim across.

The water is warm and sluggish, much unlike the water a ways up. You could probably cross easily, that is, if you can swim.

Aspen winced slightly. He would not bet on his swimming skills. He turned tail and headed back upstream where the water was cleaner. Maybe there was something past there the other way? Even if their was not, Aspen did not want to drown.

The water up river is much faster. If you headed down river you might be able to find a shallow area.

Despite his reluctance of the muddier water, Aspen decided that the best way to find somewhere to cross without possible drowning would be downstream. So off he went.
As you walk you can soon hear water in the distance
I move toward the sound of it. There could be good campground there, and water is something important. Not having to go anywhere for water would be good!
