Quests. If you can, battle through the ones that you could just click through. You get more items that way.

So, for some quests, you could just retreat every battle and wait for an "inspect area". It gets you more gold if you don't retreat from every battle, because you get more items that way. It doesn't really work for me anymore, because I'm level 70... but it might work for you.
