He picks up their scent almost immediately. Its faint and far off, but distinctly different from the ordinary smells of steel and copper.

Theyre a lot more humanlike than hed envisioned them. In fact, he legitimately cant see any differences between them and the young human woman theyre flirting with; as far as he can tell, the only difference is in their scent.

Eventually the lady leaves, not interested in the metal-smelling pseudo-humans. Meaning he doesnt have to hide.
