"But...how would anyone else have known what she was going to do? Or felt it or whatever it is you do?"

He shrugged, gripping his metal band tighter, knuckles going white.

She noticed and quickly scrambled for something good to say, pulling a knee up to her chest. "Well, the angels would never use it to help anyone, so I don't think you have much in common with them there."

His teal eyes lifted and looked to her, head raising a bit. He seemed to perk up faintly at the thought of being different than those monstrous creatures.

For a second she thought that she had said the wrong thing. "Um...so...want one?" She asked, going over to the pizza box, flipping the lid open. She wasn't really hungry, there was just something about cold pizza.

The switch of topic made Vex feel as though she'd not meant it and he drooped again, shaking his head with eyes down once more. "No, th-thank you."

She noticed and went over to him. "Hey, cheer up!" She would've probably playfully punched his shoulder but decided against it. "It's not like this situation isn't anything we can't handle, right?"

He perked up faintly at the word 'we', looking to her with teal eyes a bit happier. A bit. "We? L-like ... a t-team?" he asked softly.

She was so relieved that it hadn't only put him down more that she just about collapsed. "Well...yeah. I wouldn't have dragged you out here just to leave you. That would be stupid and pointless."

"B-but ... like, w-we could work t-togther. I w-won't just be a-along for the "ride" as s-some say?" He said, seeming to want to find something utterly positive about this. He was on a soccer team, didn't he get to be treated as a team member on it? Because he seemed a bit to hopeful about this to be something that he's experienced before.
