She shook her head. "Now understand?"

"Understand? No. Not really."

She huffed. "Understand Jay sons pain." She said, trying to clarify.

He shook his head, the same answer. "No. I don't," he sighed. "I really don't, and I'm not sure how to understand...I don't see what he does in Puck."

She put both her little front talons to his chest and reached her little neck up to look right at his eyes. "Hasn't hurt him. Puck has not hurt, has not shoved away. Has not told will kill him if seen again." She said, trying to get Ash to understand. She wanted to make it so that Ash could understand what the poor kid had gone through. ... Because of him.

"You don't have to remind me." He went through so much guilt every day for that. For pushing him away. "I was trying to do what I thought was best for him, but I just...I apparently don't learn very well, because I did it more than once, okay?"

She wasn't satisfied. "Will remind. Will remind till understands. Jay son always sad. Is always sad. For years and years. Long time. No real joy. But ..." She pointed up at him. "Gave some joy to him. Gave some joy." She then shook her head. "But then took away. Like every person before. Every person. Except Puck."

"Listen. I was trying to protect him. And we all know how that went. I didn't mean to hurt him, and I was hurting myself in the process...And you know what? I bet Puck'll end up hurting him, too." He was mostly saying that out of spite

"But if hurting both Jay son and you, then why not real ize not right thing? And Puck will not." She said, not about to give up any time soon. "Has not and will not. Keeps close and safe no matter, has pulled out of a co ma' like thing ss. Has not gone off while suffers in bed. Has stayed by Jay son no matter what. Even in scary spiky bush and monster place!"

"The Brambles?" That was when he was bugged...He remembered it, and he had killed the dragon as well as all the other creatures that had got in his way. What a delightful conversation this was. "I knew it wasn't the right thing to do, okay?" He didn't say it out loud, but who was to say that Puck wouldn't? If he had accidentally killed one, why not another?
