Despite how odd one would think this little man seemed,Jason was used to odd things so he only thought of him as cool. A fanged smile reaching his face.

"Good evening, Twiggs," Ash greeted politely.
The little man blinked, squinting up at the figure towering over him. "Ash?" he squeaked at last. "Haven't seen you round these parts in a while. What brings you to my humble tree?"
"Escort service," Ash replied, shifting to the side so that Twiggs could get a clear view of Jason. His beady eyes were fixed on him, and he blinked in confusion. Then, suddenly, they got huge and round, and Twiggs looked back at Ash.
"Is...is that...?"
"It is."
"Does he...?"
"No."
"Oh my." Twiggs opened the small door wide, beckoning them with a sticklike arm. "Come in, come in. Quickly now. Before the dryads catch sight of you, irritating gossips." Twiggs vanished inside, and Ash turned to Jason

Jason was smiling kindly to the little man called Twiggs, but his eyes looked to Ash with confusion. Both on what they had spoken of about them and what they knew, and also of how to go through the tiny door.

Ash realized that Jason didn't know how to get through the door. He took his hand as he had dropped it when he had knocked, and said, "Close your eyes," he told Jason, "and just walk."

More pink came to Jason's freckle scales as Ash took his hand again, and nodded, obediently doing as he was told.

They shrink and go into the tiny door. "You can open your eyes now," Ash said. They stood in a cozy, round room, the walls made of smooth redwood, the floor covered with mossy carpet. A flat rock on three stumps served as a table in the center of the room, displaying berries the size of soccer balls. A rope ladder hung on the far wall, and when someone looked to where it led there were dozens of insects crawling on the walls or hovering in the air high above them, for the trunk extended farther than either of them could see. Each bug was the size of a cocker spaniel, and they glowed a luminescent yellow-green.

Jason did and his eyes widened in wonder at the place, his mouth gaping ever so slightly. The dragon realm had been cool but this...this to him was amazing! "woah..." He said soft as a singing breeze.

"You've been renovating, Twiggs," Ash said, sitting on a bundle of furs that passed for a couch. The head of the squirrel was still attached to the skin. "This place was barely a hole in the tree when I saw it last."
Twiggs looked pleased. He was their height now--actually, they were more his height--and up close he smelled of cedar and moss. "Yes, I've grown quite fond of it," Twiggs said, going over to the table. He picked up a knife and split a berry into thirds, arranging the pieces on wooden plates. "Still, I might have to move soon. The dryads whisper to me, tell me dark things. They say parts of the wyldwood are dying, vanishing more every day. No one knows what's causing it."
"You know what's causing it," Ash said, draping the squirrel tail over his lap. "We all do."

Jason felt awkward and the faint soft lavender fading around within the fading pink of his scales showed it. His wings where in tight and his tail held close between his legs as he tried to stay out of the way.

"No." Twiggs shook his head. "Mortal disbelief had always taken a bit of the Nevernever, but not like this. This is...different. It's hard to explain. You'll see what I mean if you go any farther. He handed them each a plate with a huge slab of red berry, half an acorn and a pile of what looked like steamed white grubs.
