"Really? You think that I would pity you? I hate you and the rest of the Wildwood kids."

She rolled her eyes. "That's nice to hear. Really ruined the moment I thought we were having though. I thought we were becoming bros, Dustin. Bros." She dramatically threw a hand to her forehead.

"Bros, huh? Interesting. So are you going to tell me the story or what? Since we're bros and all. Ya know."

"Great. I just walked into that one." She paused, staying silent for a few minutes as her smile faded away from her face.

"It happened in the summer before freshman year. My older sister... my older sister Kendra was my best friend since the day I was born. Even though she was a few years older than me we did almost everything together. She was a cheerleader too- and convinced me to start cheer too. She was the biggest fan of my music and my voice. And one day we were driving home from a friend's house.

"We both were fine. But it was really dark out. We had just been driving around the curve of a street with no lamp posts when the headlights of the car Blu med out all of a sudden. It was sudden and Kendra was surprised that it had gotten so dark. She swerved and crashed into a tree.

"I fainted after that. I had to stay in the hospital for a while and I couldn't believe it or accept it for almost half the year after.

"My sister is gone."

She was obviously fighting back tears. Her eyes were a bit red and she just swiped at them with the sleeves of her hoodie so she wouldn't cry in front of him.

"People said they were sorry. But most of them don't know what it's like to lose someone you love."

"Well, I do...just not like that. That's horrible. My dad was murdered and soon after, my mom abandoned me. She never really loved me, but by the time that all that happened, I didn't really have a heart or soul anymore. I didn't really care. And to be honest, I still dont." He said, shrugging

She shook her head. "Honestly I can't imagine what that must have been like--losing two people at once. Even if you don't care there's always some part of you, even one that's gone now, that's felt hurt for the people that are gone."

Kestrel laughed bitterly. "Look at me. Sitting in the forest with a kid who hates me, complaining about my past while trying to hide my sheer terror."

"Hey now. Who said I hated you? I though we were bros. Plus, technically you weren't complaining about your past you were just...retelling it."

"You said you hated me, idiot. Like three minutes ago." She said, but got up and sat beside him instead of across from him.

"Yeah? Well I say a lot of things, dont I?"

"Too much." She replied with a laugh, but it morphed into a yawn. She blinked sleepily. "Great I'm gonna fall asleep. I guess it's sleeping on leaves for tonight."
