We already have a magical wolf shifter, plus the students don't know how to shift yet.

I didn't see a hippogriff but I'll change it to a chamrosh.
(There is a kitsune, a dragon, a unicorn, a spirit fox, a sea serpent, a qirin, a phoenix, a fox deer, a cat bird, a peryton, a wolf deer, a pooka, an enfield, and a chamrosh.)
