The Howling

A wolf's howl echoed through the night, sending shivers down any beings spine. It had many emotions, such as pain, rage, anguish, but mostly vengeance. How, you might ask, can an animal's voice hold all those thing. Sit back, but don't relax too much as you read this sorrowful tale.

A female child by the name of Akira, no more than the age of three tugged on her mother's dress. Too caught up in what she was about to say, she didn't notice that her mother didn't even look down.

"Mommy! Look at the pretty picture I made!" Akira raised up her arms to show a drawing of she and her mother standing together hugging. On the top was scrawled 'I luv u Mommy'.

Akira looked at her mother quizzically when she realized that her mother didn't respond. It was clear that the woman was ignoring her but to a three year old, it looked like her mother didn't hear her.

The clearly confused Akira started pulling on her mother's dress. After she started pulling as hard as she could, the woman finally looked down on her.

"What do you want, you ungrateful brat!" The woman hissed at her daughter. Akira, clearly unfazed started to show her the picture.

"Look mommy! It's me and you!" She happily told her mother.

"How dare you!" Her mother shouted at her. Akira flinched. "You wasted paper and what did you use! You don't any art supplies!"

Akira realized her mistake. She started to crawl back but her mother grabbed her hair and raised her five feet into the air to hold her in place.

"I used E-Emma's." She managed to get out. Her mother threw her to the floor

"You brat! You should have never existed! Stealing from us!" She screamed at her frightened daughter who was huddled in a dark corner, trying to make herself as small as possible.

"I'm sorry mommy! What do I do!" Akira desperately asked.

"You should have never entered my womb and have been born as Emma's twin sister! To make me happy you need to DIE!." Her mother screamed. Suddenly, her face took on a different expression.

"I know." She gleefully cackled. "Get out."

Akira was horrified. She could not comprehend what her own mother just said.

"Mommy?" She asked, trying to assure herself that she was imagining things.

"I SAID GET OUT!" The older female roared, suddenly loosing patience. She grabbed Akira by the hair and threw outside, into the biting winter frost. Akira's mother slammed the door before Akira could move.

Akira staggered into the forest, the cold were like icy knives stabbing her, again and again. Suddenly, Akira found what looked like a den.

She started running, ignoring how numb she was, or the thorns digging into her feet. She had to get to that den.

She finally reached and Akira went onto her knees and crawled inside. She could see a mother wolf nursing her pups.

She was desperate at that point. Akira went over and laid down. The female wolf sniffed her before allowing her to stay. Akira was overjoyed at the acceptance.

10 years later

Akira knocked on a familiar door. She remembered everything that had happened and wanted to see how her sister was doing.

Suddenly, she was snapped out of her thoughts as a very familiar face opened the door.

"Akira!" Emma cried out, glad to see her sister for the first time in ten years. They reached out to hug each other and then kiss each other on the cheeks.

After the greeting were over, Emma rushed her inside. "We have so much to catch up on!" She happily exclaimed. Akira didn't respond, she was looking at everything. After all, she was raised by wolves and away from civilization for ten years.

"Where's our caretaker?" She asked in a rough scratchy voice.

"In her room, go say hi to her."

At that moment a boy walked in. He raised his eyebrow at Akira before turning towards Emma.

"Em, who is she?" He asked her. Akira noted to herself that he called her 'Em'

"Braden meet Akira, my sister. Akira meet Braden, my boyfriend." They shook hands as Emma beamed. Akira was certain that one day, Emma would replace the sun.

"Excuse me." Akira told the lovers as she walked towards her mother's room. She mentally prepared herself for what she was about to see, or hear.

As Akira walked into the room, she saw her mother combing her hair.

"Oh, you're back. Well, please remove yourself from this house as soon as possible." Her mother told her, not even glancing from the mirror.

"Nice to see you too, Shira," Akira said to her in a cold expressionless voice. She forgot why she even bothered.

"Well not for long." Her mother-no Shira told her as she picked a knife from her drawer and stabbed herself.

"Emma help! Akira's trying to kill me!" She yelled at the top of her lungs. Akira looked at Shira with a shocked expression..

"My welcome gift to you, humiliated you." She smiled evily. Akira suddenly transformed into a wolf humanoid and jumped out of the window before anyone could catch her.

She ran into the forest a howl that showed her yearning for love.
