I wake up as well, examining my talons, before looking out my window to see the golden glow of sun ringing the horizon. I looked at my claws once more before getting up, shaking off my dream. I make sure my anklet is secure, sling my assassinations pouch over my shoulder, and sharpen my daggers before putting them in the pouch. The dark brown leather seems so innocent. Like I used to. I scrabble under my possessions, grasping a piece of paper, and I pull it out. It's a drawing, all in shades of purple and blue, of me, my twin, my younger brother, and our parents. Everyone looks so happy, if not disproportionately drawn. The heads are too big, the eyes are wide and bright, and everyone has an unrealistic smile. I stare at it, once again unmoved, and throw the drawing in the fireplace, going to the throne room without a glance back.
