And that would be for the best. But if she would do everything she could, did that mean that eventually she'd resort to chains? What if she ended up being so desperate to keep D that she started actually trying to prevent her from being able to leave at all?

It very well could get to that point, yes. However, she wasn't happy if D wasn't happy, so she would be just as miserable as D would be.

But D would be miserable in she made Kate miserable so she'd try and seem happy best she could to please Kate, she'd do any thing for the human girl. Anything.
