(Omg, yes. I can be there "in the convo" until someones like 'Okay Sam, what do you think?' and I'll have been listening but then I'm like "Huh? Oh...uh...." in my mind "I have an opinion on this?")
Both hugged her back, the two where much happier with Kate than in that creepy, blood thirsty lab.

(Yeah, and then there's kind of like an awkward silence before you say anything, or like I'll just say 'I don't care' or 'whichever's fine' and they'll be like 'no I want a real answer' except I don't really have a preference and so it gets a little awkward. I'm just a really awkward person so that doesn't help)
Very true. But Kate felt like that wasn't really saying much, since she was pretty sure that anyone who escaped would be happy anywhere else but the lab

(About the same happens to me, but they usually don't actually care about my opinion so don't often let me say anything at all. And then I just try to slip away from the awkwardness but they yank me back in for no reason.)
Well, they wouldn't have been happy with a rude person. Or a person who'd been mean or not like Kate.

(For me they just pick with out any look overs the pros and cons and just drag me along.)
So they had much right to be happy to be around with Kate.
